Job Description
The Paralegal is responsible for performing intermediate skilled technical legal work analyzing information, drafting legal documents, conducting legal research, and assisting with trial preparations in order to increase the overall efficiency and productivity of the County Attorney"s Office. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Office Manager. Job Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Analyzes law enforcement reports and statements to determine sufficiency of information to support criminal charge;
Prepares technical legal documents, including: complaints, declinations, pleadings, warrants, subpoenas, motions, and proposed orders;
Conducts legal research and drafts legal briefs and memorandums;
Manages the process of and ensures proper procedural handling of appeal cases and civil lawsuits;
Assist attorneys with trial preparation, including scheduling and participating in witness preparation meetings, compilation of evidence and trial notebooks, obtaining transcripts, certified copies, and curriculum vitae for professional witnesses;
Meet with attorneys to monitor status of upcoming trials;
Provide courtroom assistance during hearings and trials, including participating in the voir dire process, documenting testimony, preparing and providing demonstrative exhibits, and other assistance during the proceedings, as needed;
Assist Office Manager and legal support staff with eFiling and other administrative tasks, as needed;
Compiles and submits miscellaneous survey and statistical information, including annual reporting to various County, State and other local entities;
Performs other duties and activities, as assigned. Education and/or Experience

TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:
Associates/technical degree as a paralegal or five (5) years of equivalent working experience, and at least two (2) years of working experience in the legal field. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the general public and others to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
Physical Requirements
Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Walking and standing are required only occasionally. Additional Information
For select positions, newly hired full-time employees are eligible to receive $1,000 upon completion of 90 days of employment and an additional $1,000 upon completion of the probation period (typically 12 months) for a total of $2,000.
Newly hired employees, with three (3) or more years of direct experience who are deemed lateral transfers, shall receive an additional one-time $1,000 hiring incentive payment upon completion of 90 days of employment ($2,000 total payment). And an additional $1,000 upon completion of the probation period (typically 12 months) for a total payment of $4,000.
Newly hired part-time employees are also eligible for the hiring incentive for select positions at a pro-rated amount based on anticipated required hours worked.
