PAINTING SUPERVISOR

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (copy required upon initial hire date)
  • Five years of experience in the preparation and painting of interior and exterior walls to acquire a working knowledge of techniques, practices, and methods of the painting trade.
  • Requires leadership skills acquired through lead work or supervisory experience.
  • Yearly Physical (required within 1 month of initial hire date)
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License (copy required upon initial hire date)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of a painting vocational/technical school or recognized apprenticeship program in the painting trade is preferred.
  • Good communication and organizational skills
  • Experience working with adolescents

HOURS:

  • Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
  • Must be flexible to meet the needs of the program

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Be able to handle all the physical responsibilities of the position, which includes but is not limited to lifting, moving, and prolonged periods of standing
  • Ability to work off ladders, scaffolding, and/or in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to successfully complete Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training

OBJECTIVES OF POSITION:

  • Supervises, performs, and coordinates paint and wall covering activities for all campus building structures, walls, woodwork, and equipment following recognized procedures and techniques of the painting trade.
  • Employees in this job also function as a part-time Vocational Instructor for the youth assigned to their specific skilled trade area, providing a positive work experience emphasizing the development of good work ethic and vocational skills.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Trade Specific:

  • Supervises, performs, and coordinates skilled painting work in the preparation, patching, finishing, and maintaining of all building structures, walls, woodwork, and equipment by inspecting the work site according to work orders to determine the materials, equipment, tools, and method to be used.
  • Identifies potential future projects that will improve the appearance of the buildings, and prepares and presents proposals of the project to the Facilities Management team.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and distributes incoming work orders to ensure proper balance of workload in the painting shop; makes work assignments and prioritizes work orders as received; evaluates completed work orders.
  • Match and order paint and stains to proper color and consistency.
  • Supervises, assigns, and performs painting projects with quality workmanship by preparing surfaces for painting using sandpaper, power sanders, steel wool, wire brushes, scrapers, paint removers, and chemicals, filling nail holes, cracks, or joints with putty, plaster or other fillers, applying paints, stains, varnishes, enamel, or lacquer using appropriate tools.
  • Supervises and practices preventative maintenance of painting tools and equipment to determine their working condition, oiling moving parts, cleaning and servicing tools and equipment as directed or specified in the operator’s manual, and notifying Facilities Department Administration of damaged tools and equipment for repair or replacement.
  • Ensures Agency property and equipment from damage during painting work by removing furniture, wall fixtures, and equipment from work sites if possible or covering immoveable items with protective cloths, covering floors with cloths, taping woodwork, facings, and decorative trims, and erecting safe scaffolding in a manner that prevents damage.
  • Coordinates the training of new personnel; ensures staff is properly trained on procedures and equipment to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Assist in the supervision/operation of the painting shop and related personnel.
  • Properly use equipment, material, and tools in a safe and professional manner
  • Perform related duties as assigned by the supervisor
  • Responsible for adhering to and performing all duties in accordance with all rules, regulations, policies, and safety standards of The William George Agency and the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, while upholding our mission, vision and values.

Vocational Instructor:

  • Upon hiring into the program, assess the youth’s interests and knowledge of the Vocational Program specific to your trade area
  • Instructs youth in a skilled trade to prepare them for employment upon discharge
  • Plan and conduct on-the-job training activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides youth with opportunities to observe, question, and participate in
  • Instruct youth in the proper and safe care of work areas and all applicable equipment; stress safety at all times
  • Be prepared and in a position to begin work in accordance with the Vocational Program time schedules; ensure that assigned youth are properly supervised at all times and maintain attendance and work schedule records
  • Enforce established dress, conduct, and behavior codes appropriate to the Vocational Program area
  • Communicate and document significant behaviors or incidents on behalf of youth.
  • Maintain all trade-related, Vocational Program, and youth records and paperwork in a timely, organized way
  • Responsible for adhering to and performing all duties in accordance with all rules, regulations, policies, and safety standards of The William George Agency and the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, while upholding our mission, vision, and values.

The William George Agency for Children’s Services is located on a 650-acre campus nine miles northeast of Ithaca, in the Finger Lakes Region of New York State. It is a private not-for-profit residential treatment center licensed by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) that serves both male and female youth between the ages of 12 and 21, and their families, who present with significant mental health issues, behavioral difficulties, and substance abuse issues. Our programs offer an array of treatment modalities specifically designed to meet the needs of our youth.
