The Outreach Advocate will provide education and grassroots-outreach to increase awareness and knowledge of Rape Recovery Center services, mission, and general knowledge of sexual violence causes, impact and resources throughout Salt Lake and Tooele County. They work to create strong partnerships with relevant nonprofits, businesses, and government agencies. They will also assist with developing and implementing outreach initiatives that are culturally and developmentally appropriate to the audience and evaluate the effectiveness of outreach efforts. This includes a focus on targeted outreach to communities that are overrepresented in experiencing sexual violence but less likely to seek services.

This is a full-time, 40 hours per week position with full benefits, hourly position of $19.00 -$21.66 DOE, with a hybrid Monday to Friday schedule. The candidate selection is based on trauma therapy experience, experience working with vulnerable communities, knowledge and a willingness to learn about the feminist multicultural therapy approach, and an understanding of intersectionality. Reports To: Community Engagement Director

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Increase knowledge of Rape Recovery Center mission and services, the dynamics of sexual violence, causes and consequences throughout Salt Lake and Tooele County.
  • Increase knowledge of the Rape Recovery Center through grassroots outreach, presentations, tours, workshops, tabling, distribution of flyers and written materials and virtual content.
  • Increase individuals accessing services at the Rape Recovery Center as directed by yearly and periodic strategic goals.
  • Represent the Rape Recovery Center with a professional image and manner. Show confidence in the knowledge base and people skills.
  • Review, understand, and comply with Rape Recovery Center personnel policies and practices.
  • Work with RRC staff, volunteers, and community partners in a collaborative, respectful fashion that further strengthens the relationship RRC has with those agencies and individuals in Salt Lake and Tooele County.
  • As requested, represent the Rape Recovery Center through public speaking engagements, media appearances, and meetings.
  • Periodically evaluate materials for cultural and developmental appropriateness, inclusivity, accuracy, and recent research and changes in best practices.
  • Collaborate with Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Advocate and leadership team to coordinate outreach and engagement with PREA programs to increase currently or formerly incarcerated survivors' knowledge of services and transition into services.
  • Collaborate with relevant internal teams to create traditional and social media content focusing on services of the Rape Recovery Center.
  • Provide crisis intervention, case management, refferals and support to sexual violence survivors while representing the Rape Recovery Center at public programming.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field OR 4 years experience in community engagement, outreach, or grassroots advocacy OR an equivalent combination of practical and academic experience
  • Bilingual or Multilingual in English & Spanish
  • Outstanding communication skills
  • Ability to work well with—and inspire confidence in—with multiple stakeholders
  • Excellence in balancing various responsibilities
  • Demonstrated project management, public speaking, writing, and interpersonal skills.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Understanding of the micro, mezzo and macro impact of sexual violence
  • Experience with case management, engagement, and working with disproportionately impacted populations (i.e. LGBTQI+, Unhoused, Undocumented Immigrants, Black, Indigenous, and other Persons of Color)
  • Experience in non-profit outreach and engagement.
  • Knowledge of Salt Lake County or Tooele based resources and partnerships.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT OFFER

  • Employee must complete and pass a criminal background check
  • Employee must comply with the flu and covid19 vaccination policy
  • Employee must obtain a 40-hour Sexual Assault Crisis Counselor certification within 90 days of the start of employment
  • Employee must complete all new hire paperwork by the end of the day on the first workday
