JOB SUMMARY
This position is for a Registered Nurse whose responsibility is to coordinate the day-to-day patient care activities for patients receiving diagnostic and therapeutic services in the Surgical Services Department. Utilizes the nursing process to assess, prioritize, plan, deliver, and evaluate care provided to neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient populations. Refers unusual clinical and administrative problems to the Director of Surgical Services or the Nursing Supervisor. Responsible for the supervision of professional and skilled personnel during an assigned shift. The position reports to the Director of Surgical Services.
Standards of Performance
- Completes an accurate patient assessment within timeframe specified by policy.
- Formulates a patient problem list from collected information.
- Formulates a patient plan of care within timeframe specified by protocol.
- Re-evaluates patient and revises plan of care within timeframe specified by policy and procedure.
- Communicates changes as they are noted. Assists other nurses in the revision of the care plan.
- Involves the patient and family in planning care and determining achievable outcomes.
- Utilizes a multi-disciplinary approach to plan for patient discharge, beginning with the initial patient contact.
- Utilizes an interactive teaching-learning process for patient education.
- Documents all nursing actions accurately and as specified by protocol.
- Administers medications and solutions in a safe and timely manner.
- Monitors the patient?s physiological status during local procedures, as specified by protocol.
- Monitors the patient?s condition in recovery areas and notifies anesthesia provider and/or surgeon of post-procedure problems.
- Adheres to the policies and procedures relevant to the surveillance, prevention, and control of infections. Notifies infection control coordinator of pertinent issues.
- Assesses availability of supplies and necessary documentation the day prior to a scheduled procedure.
