Job Summary
Job Summary: Job incumbent's primary responsibility is to provide optometric care to IHS beneficiaries (Alaska Natives and American Indians) seeking such care at TCC. Conducts field optometry clinics in rural communities within the TCC region annually. Serves as Acting Director of Eye Clinic in the absence of the Director.
Adhere to the TCC Ch'eghwtsen' model of service and guiding principle which requires providing timely and effective service along with the ability to interact with others in a way that inspires trust and demonstrates respect, compassion and empathy.
Essential Functions

Representative Duties: Under the general supervision of the Eye Clinic Director, job incumbent:
1. Independently examines vision, eyes, and related structures to diagnose and quantify vision anomalies and to detect diseases and/or other abnormalities.
2. Treats ocular conditions found on examination by prescribing and adapting spectacle lenses, contact lenses, optical aids, vision training therapy, or by the use of specific ophthalmic and systemic medications.
3. Documents clinical findings, diagnoses, and treatment recommendations in a patient's health records and/or other appropriate records and completes accountability reports and peer reviews as required.
4. Refers patients requiring further diagnosis, treatment, and/or assistance as appropriate.
5. Instructs and supervises clinic staff in administrative, technical, and professional vision care procedures.
6. Assists in the selection and procurement of supplies and equipment as needed in the performance of all duties and assumes responsibility for the proper use, maintenance, and conservation of these resources.
7. Participates in AANHS area eye care conferences, meetings, and other events as required and authorized by supervisor.
8. Responds to patient concerns/complaints regarding services as presented in accordance to TCC policies.
9. Assists in preparation of quarterly narrative reports on services provided.
10. Performs administrative duties, attend meetings, conferences, and other assignments as directed.
11. Leads village field clinics and supervise optical team members during field trips.

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Doctor of Optometry Degree. Optometry license to practice in state of Alaska or licensure requirements for IHS Commission Corps. Officer.
2. At least one (1) year clinical experience.
3. Continuing education required to maintain optometry license.
4. Must pass background check pursuant to federal Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act requirements.
5. Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
Supervision: Serves as Acting Director in absence of Eye Clinic Director or when leading a village field trip team.
