Dover Chemical Corporation, a privately held, industry leading specialty chemical manufacturer for over 70 years, is seeking to fill several positions in their operations group. These positions are open due to a number of recent internal promotions. ROLE OBJECTIVE:

Operators and Utility Operators work under the direction of area management to follow standard operating procedures to perform various tasks involved in the manufacturing process. Operators are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the area equipment (reactors, pumps, heat exchangers, absorbers, etc.). The goal is to produce quality products to specification required for each customer shipment.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Unload materials from various containers (railcars, tanker trailers, totes, drums, bags) and/or load finished goods into various containers
  • Charge the various raw materials required for each product and operate the area equipment to produce in spec material for each of the products they produce.
  • Control the manufacturing process by staying within the operating limits of various pieces of equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical and process upsets; and adjust an abnormal situations to a properly controlled operation.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and process problems along with monitoring gauges, recording instruments, flowmeters, and other indicators to ensure that specified conditions are maintained and operational systems are working properly.
  • Patrol and inspect work areas or units to detect leaks and equipment malfunctions, monitor operating conditions, and shut equipment down if necessary.
  • Perform safety inspections in your area that may include eye wash stations, safety showers, hazardous waste satellite areas, ladder storage areas, labeling, and all other safety requirements as deemed necessary by management.
  • Field work: opening valves and starting pumps, connecting or disconnecting railcar and tanker trailers, taking samples and transfers to QC for testing, operating a forklift, performing housekeeping tasks such as emptying dumpsters, cleaning up spills, etc.
  • Record Keeping: recording operational data in log books, inputting data into Microsoft Dynamics AX ERP system as needed.
  • Communication: Providing information to management and co-workers by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person; notifying maintenance of all equipment malfunctions.
  • Train new operators once they have certified on the process.
  • Keep the control room and/or office clean and neat.
  • Follow and abides by all safety, operations, and emergency procedures.
  • Other duties as may be assigned by management or leader.
  • All of the above duties are to be performed in the safest most efficient manner possible to achieve the optimum production of a quality product.


REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have a high school diploma or Graduate Equivalency Diploma (GED).
  • Must be able to work any shift, including weekends, overtime, holidays, with workdays from 8-12 hours.
  • Must be able to pass an online assessment that measures a candidate's ability to learn a specific job, solve problems, understand instructions and apply knowledge to new situations.
  • Must be able to perform physical activities that require moving your whole body with considerable use of arms and legs, such as reaching, bending, twisting, standing, climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials with potential for dust explosion.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift, push, or pull 50 lb. and through mechanical means roll or handle 500 lb. drums.
  • Must be able to work some heights and climb stairs and railcar ladders as needed.
  • Must be able to wear a full face respirator, supplied air, or an SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus)
