The Hampton Roads Connector Partners JV (HRCP) consisting of Dragados, VINCI, and Flatiron has been selected to construct the $3.8bn Design Build project –the largest civil construction contract ever awarded by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).

The project scope across a 9 mile section of the I-64 will include: a new 3.5-mile bridge-tunnel crossing that will accommodate a total of 8 lanes of capacity across the water, replacement of the existing marine approach bridges and the addition of a third lane on I-64 in each direction. The twin 45’ diameter 1.5-mile tunnels will be bored by TBM, creating the second largest TBM tunnel opening for a TBM in North America. The project is expected to continue to the end of 2025.

Individual will report to their assigned foreman. Individual will be responsible for Bidwell and concrete conveyor support associated with: edge forms, screed rails, deck pours, diaphragm pours, deck cure, and general construction of Cast In Place (CIP) elements.

Specific to Willoughby bay Bridge, the Bidwell operator needs to be experienced in the operation of both TEREX Bidwell models and concrete conveyor systems. This individual must have functional knowledge of how to set up, test run, adjust, and operate a TEREX model Bidwell.

Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Able to read, recognize, and utilize equipment technical data to safely operate a Bidwell or concrete conveyor in close proximity to a working crew.
  • Able to read, comprehend, and be in compliance with any and all applicable Project, State, Federal, and OHSA safety regulations.
  • Understands daily production schedule and adjusts work to meet schedule and cost parameters.
  • Performs additional assignments per foreman’s direction.

Recommended Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience with construction tools and equipment safety.
  • Experience with deck construction.
  • Experience working at height/with fall protection.
  • Experience working with Bidwell’s near (within 2’) of active roadway.
  • Experience working over water.
  • 3 years’ experience assigned as a Bidwell operator.

Physical Demands - While performing the duties of this job, the employee is

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear and drive.
  • Regularly required to use full range of body motion including handling and operating various hand and power tools, manual finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, reach, crawl, climb, twist, squat or crouch.
  • Regularly requires working at heights, a strong sense of balance, climbing and descending ladders frequently.
  • Often requires lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling items weighing up to 60 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Able to wear the required safety personal protective equipment.

Environmental Conditions:

  • Frequently exposed to rain, sleet, snow, dust, mud, heat, cold, noise and other conditions common to a construction site.
  • Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles.
  • Frequently exposed to work environment that consist of elevated noise level.
