nuEra is a rapidly growing, vertically integrated cannabis company that operates in Illinois and Michigan. We currently have approximately 120 employees, but expect to be at least twice as large by the end of the year, with multiple additional retail locations and increased cultivation capacity. As we grow, we are looking for a leader excited to set the direction and tone of our company culture, and carry out the day-to-day tasks of HR management.

As a People Ops Manager for nuEra, you will be part of a small, dynamic leadership team working day and night to create a new standard of excellence in cannabis. The right person for this job has an entrepreneurial attitude, can create and implement new systems, and is as enthusiastic about tackling the strategy challenges of growing fast while creating an outstanding company culture as they are about performing the day to day tasks of HR administration. You will report to the COO and work closely with the CFO, and the Retail and Cultivation operations teams.

This is an Illinois-based position on a primarily distributed team (remote work most days) that will require regular travel (several day trips per month) to our facilities around Illinois and Michigan.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage employee engagement, change management, performance management, and HR communications.
  • Ensure compliance with all national and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Manage employee relations, including investigating and resolving employee complaints and issues
  • Administer employee benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other benefits
  • Oversee the onboarding process for new hires, including coordinating orientation and training, and ensuring compliance with all required paperwork and regulations
  • Process payroll accurately and in a timely manner
  • Coordinate recruiting efforts, including posting job openings, screening resumes, scheduling interviews, and conducting background checks
  • Develop and implement training programs to enhance employee skills and knowledge
  • Keep abreast of changes in employment laws and regulations and ensure the company remains in compliance
  • Help develop and maintain company policies and procedures, including the employee handbook
  • Maintain accurate employee records and files
  • Participate in other HR projects and initiatives as needed
  • Create and track HR Metrics to identify trends and design and implement appropriate actions
  • Facilitate annual performance and calibration sessions and drive the annual talent review process.
  • Have the flexibility and adaptability of a leader in a growth-stage company, ready to jump in and collaborate in other departments and projects

Qualifications:

  • 5-10 years of HR Operations or broader HR experience in a high-growth, fast-paced, and changing environment.
  • Startup experience and/or experience in retail or manufacturing a plus
  • Bachelor's degree or previous equivalent HR discipline experience
  • Proven ability as both strategist and practitioner of HR programs - with a strong track record of successfully implementing people programs and initiatives
  • Experience simultaneously managing people and processes in an HR environment
  • Technologically savvy - capable and excited about vetting, selecting and implementing technological tools to improve employee communications, training and processes.
  • Experience using data to drive decision-making, tracking initiative success and communicating results
  • Ability to problem solve, manage conflict, and build relationships with people at all levels of an organization
  • Demonstrated experience with administrative use in HR Information Systems use and/or implementations. Experience with UKG Ready (Mosaic HCM) a plus.
