Position verifies the number of tissues delivered by the medical couriers, and unwraps, batches, labels, spins, and directs samples according to established departmental procedures.
- Verifies the number of tissues delivered by the medical couriers
- Unwraps, batches, labels, spins and directs the samples according to established departmental procedures.
- Performs all procedures associated with the procurement of patient specimens for clinical laboratory analysis: Blood, Urine, Sputum
- Strictly adheres to legal criteria regarding laboratory testing procedures; maintains strict confidentiality regarding all medical information.
- Maintains neat, clean, orderly patient/work areas at all times.
- Required to use (a) personal protective equipment, (b) engineering controls and/or (c) work practice controls as directed by management.
- Adheres to all established laboratory safety requirements.
- Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned by competent authority
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Work Experience:
Minimum of 1-year phlebotomy
Preferred Work Experience:
6 months receptionist experience helpful
Physical and Mental Requirements:
- Frequent walking and/or standing
- The normal performance of duties may require lifting and carrying objects
Knowledge:
Knowledge of aseptic technique in the collection of specimens
Skills:
- Interpersonal skills, which includes teamwork, adaptability and dependability
- Ability to work accurately with attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to work without close supervision.
- Ability to safely handle body fluid samples and dispose of biohazard materials.
- Ability to deal with confidential information in a discreet manner.
- Above average interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with clients, patients (of all age groups) and employees.
- Ability to work flexible shifts and/or weekend hours as needed.
