Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Answers telephones in department and takes accurate messages.
  • Greets visitors to clinic and handles vendors.
  • Extends special attention and sensitivity to all patients and visitors.
  • Checking all patients in
  • Scheduling initial and upcoming appointments
  • Demonstrates a willingness to act as a representative of the company.
  • Participates in and encourages actions that promote good public relations with patients,families, visitors and the community.
  • Verify benefits/eligibility on each patient prior to start date, new calendar year, motor vehicle accidents/personal injuries and/or returning patients older than 90 days.
  • Inform patient of estimated out of pocket expense explaining in detail what the patients responsibility will be.
  • Obtain authorization, if necessary, from the appropriate contact (i.e. adjuster, case manager, insurance carrier, etc.) Once complete, input the detailed information into the computer system.
  • Enter accurate patient demos, insurance information and all other necessary information into the system/software currently used.
  • Scans all records from referring doctors as well as internal paperwork
  • Responsible for patient collections of copays, deductibles and/or co-insurance amounts and payment arrangement plans for recurring monthly payments, with patients active and discharged including current and past due balances
  • Completion of remote deposit and corresponding reports for all over the counter payments received and forwarded on a weekly basis to the correct contact at the corporate office.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to navigate EMR system (Entering new patient information/scheduling/attaching documents)
  • Experience calling insurance companies and verifying insurance (finding out benefit information: deductibles, OOPs, coinsurance, copay, pre-authorization requirements)
  • Ability to understand and explain insurance benefit information to new patients
  • Understanding of claim processing in regards to payments and denials
  • Specialized experience with requesting PT authorizations for specific insurance companies (UHC/GEHA/Humanaetc.)
  • Experience with obtaining motor vehicle accident billing information and knowledge of liable party billing procedures
  • Experience assisting a therapist/chiropractor in a clinic setting with patient care (tech experience)

Education, Licenses, Certifications and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Medical office experience preferred, including experience verifying and filing claims.
