Work Schedule: Generally, Monday thru Friday working varied hours between 6:30 am – 6:30 pm; however, must be able to work flexible and varied hours.

PURPOSE STATEMENT
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Assists in the supervision of day camp, play center, preschool, and other educational and general contracted programs for Recreation Center patrons, ensuring the safety and security of each program participant. Performs other duties as required or assigned.

ROLE SUCCESS PROFILE:
Key Job Accountabilities
  • Assists in developing a curriculum for Kids-in-Action Day Camp, play center, and pre-school, including providing Day Camp parents with a schedule of activities their child(ren) will be engaging in, completing the activity schedule, and monthly calendars, assisting in scheduling changes when the supervisor is absent. Planning and organizing summer field trips and activities.
  • Assists in planning work tasks and schedules for staff. Other tasks include monitoring the work of staff, interviewing for new or vacant positions, providing direction when necessary, disciplining as required, and management of conflict.
  • Maintains accurate records, fills out accident and incident reports, and conducts staff-training meetings.
  • Ensures the safety of the participants of Kids-in-Action Day Camp, PlayCenter, and Preschool.
  • Maintains the ratio of staff members to participants at a number that ensures a safe environment.
  • Ensures all equipment used in all programs is in a safe condition, including inspection of all equipment regularly. Will order new supplies when needed to keep programs running smoothly with approval from the supervisor.
  • Communicates to the parents of the program participants professionally, including discussing discipline issues, behavior issues, positive progress, etc.
  • Uses standard office equipment and performs standard office support duties in the course of work.
  • Assumes responsibility for other duties as required or assigned.
  • Provides needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees in the same or similar class of positions.
  • Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications and audiovisual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas.

Minimum Qualifications and Education Requirements:
EDUCATION-
High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) Required
Bachelor's Degree (four-year college or technical school) Required, Field of Study: Education, Recreation Administration, or related field

EXPERIENCE-
1 plus year of experience in Teaching children ages 2-18 in a group or school setting Or any combination of education and experience, which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.

COMPUTER SKILLS-
Ability to operate a personal computer using standard or customized software applications appropriate to assigned tasks and the ability and willingness to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology.

CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES-
Possess or obtain First Aid Certification and CPR Certification.
A teaching certificate would be preferred.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS-
Some early childhood education classes are helpful.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE-
Some knowledge of childcare laws, both state and local.
Some knowledge of a variety of activities and games for children.
Some knowledge of facilitating in-service training for staff, including how to conduct the training and what topics to cover.
Some knowledge of time management.

SKILLS/ABILITIES-
Skill in first aid and CPR techniques.
Skill in basic record-keeping practices and basic computer applications related to the work.
Skill in basic principles for dealing with people of various ages and from various socio-economic groups.
Ability to manage time efficiently.
Ability to provide excellent customer service to attendees and parents of Day Camp, Play Center, preschool, and other programs.
Ability to plan special events, and field trips.
Ability to monitor the transportation of children to and from school and the Nampa Recreation Center.
Ability to lead by example and perform duties that are essential to the success of assigned programs.
Ability to make sure parents' expectations of assigned programs are met.
Ability to supervise, train, and evaluate the work of others.
Ability to operate a personal computer using standard or customized software applications appropriate to assigned tasks.

Ability to maintain a valid Idaho driver's License with a clean driving record.
Ability to operate a 15-passenger van and train others to drive a 15-passenger van.

Integrity and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks; must have great creativity to provide activities that will keep the interest of program participants.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
