Statement of the Job:

The GIS, Outreach and Evaluation Coordinator is a 3-year soft-money position supporting the newly formed NNA Lobster Network funded by the National Science Foundation’s Navigating the New Arctic (NNA) Program and other related and complementary projects. The position’s primary function will be to serve the stakeholder outreach and geo-spatial mapping objectives of the NNA project as well as additional GIS tasks on a second related project supported by NOAA Sea Grant/DOE. The Coordinator will provide facilitation, outreach, evaluation, technical assistance, and GIS support for stakeholder engagement activities and external partnerships both in the US and Canada. Project objectives will benefit from a professional individual with a global perspective attuned to local issues and stakeholder interests.

Coordinator (without a Ph.D.)

  • 12-month full time appointment

Qualifications:

Coordinator

Required:

  • Typically has the education associated with a Master’s degree in Geo-spatial Information Science (GIS) and natural sciences, or conservation, and five years of relevant professional experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working familiarity with the Northeast US and Canadian lobster fishery, and coastal communities.
  • Experience with group facilitation, outreach and engagement of multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience supervising students and staff.
  • Valid Maine driver’s license and be eligible to be authorized and approved as a university driver based on the Driver Administration Policy.
  • Ability to travel.

Preferred:

  • A global perspective attuned to local issues.

Senior Coordinator

Required:

  • Has earned a PhD in Geo-spatial Information Science (GIS) and natural sciences, conservation, and has five years of relevant professional experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working familiarity with the Northeast US and Canadian lobster fishery, and coastal communities.
  • Experience with group facilitation, outreach and engagement of multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience with grant writing, grant management and fundraising in excess of $300,000
  • Experience supervising students and staff.
  • Valid Maine driver’s license and be eligible to be authorized and approved as a university driver based on the Driver Administration Policy.
  • Ability to travel.

Preferred:

  • A global perspective attuned to local issues.
