Chemours is seeking a candidate for its Miner Apprentice program at our Nahunta, GA location (Mission mine) with interest in becoming a Heavy Equipment or Mineral Processing Plant Operator in the heavy mineral mining field, no experience required. Opportunity includes:

Miner Apprentice will be responsible to report to Chemours Jesup, GA mining and mineral processing facility and work a 40hr/week schedule, with the opportunity for overtime. Apprentices will have the opportunity to work and train in various aspects of the heavy mineral mining field to include the following:
  • Federal Mine Safety and Health Administration and Chemours safety policies and procedures.
  • Heavy equipment and field operations to include excavator, bulldozer, telehandler, frontend loader, skid steer, etc. to safely drive and maneuvers equipment into position for general fieldwork activities.
  • Overseeing of water, pumps, and pipes across the mine site.
  • Mineral processing plant operation to include PLC control computer interface, regular equipment inspections, and light maintenance to monitor and maintain operating conditions of process equipment.
  • Opportunity to also visit and learn dry separation and lab processes at Offerman Mineral Sand Plant.
  • Mechanical/electrical maintenance to include preventive, down day, and emergency response maintenance.
  • Environmental stewardship to include inspections, monitoring, and sampling to support the responsible care of the environment and communities.
  • Health and Safety to include inspections, investigations, and general promotion of best practices.
  • Shift Team Assignment to work collaboratively with a team of 8 to 10 operators under the direction of a defined mentor and/or Shift Supervisor to accomplish common goals.
  • Shift assignment provides an opportunity to support regular production, continue to learn and train, while also experiencing the opportunities and asks of working with a shift team.
  • Classroom, on-the-job, and computer training in various aspects of mining and mineral processing.
The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Ensure all work is performed within company, state, and federal regulations, standards, statutes, policies, and procedures.
  • Identify and promote opportunities to improve mine safety performance, act as a safety leader.
  • Work in a self-guided manner, exercise sound judgment, and demonstrate initiative and creativity.
  • Report all personal injuries and EHS incidents and assist with both safety and environmental investigations.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with other team members.
To be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:
  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED) and ability to read and write the English language.
  • Must possess a clean and active Georgia Driver's License or if relocating the ability to obtain a Georgia Driver's License within 60 days from start
  • No previous relevant experience desired; training will be provided.
  • Deep career interest in working in an industrial field such as mining and mineral processing, willingness to work outside in adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to work a 12-hr rotating schedule and/or varying shifts, to include holidays, weekends, overtime as needed.
  • Regularly move levers, depress foot pedals, and turn dials to operate power machinery.
  • Specific vision abilities needed, including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequently ascends or descends ladders, stairs, elevated walkways, ramps.
  • Perform manual labor when needed with the ability to lift or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to work in a stationary position for extended periods (4-6 hours) when supporting plant operations and/or remain in a stationary position 80% of the time in the operation of mobile equipment.
  • Position requires working near and around operating mechanical parts and mobile equipment and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibrations.
  • Capable of wearing personal protective equipment, such as a hard hat, steel toe boots, hearing protectors, and respirators, as necessary.
