Overview & Responsibilities
The primary function of the Millwright is to erect, dismantle, install, align, adjust, repair, replace, move and inspect all mechanical and production equipment and maintain and inspect all mechanical service equipment and structures through the plant.
Tools & Equipment: Levelling and precision measuring instruments, hoists, jacks, dollies and other miscellaneous rigging equipment. A variety of portable power and hand tools such as cylinder hones, industrial pullers, burning torch, material handling equipment, welder, roadway crane, masonry material and equipment, scrapers, soldering iron and oven, pressure gages, heavy construction equipment such as backhoe, truck, etc., Ironworker, high-lifts, overhead cranes, forklifts, etc. Mechanical testing equipment, bending, threading, hose and tubing equipment.
Materials Used: Plant mechanical equipment repair parts, lubricants, structural shapes, steel plates, refractors, etc., machine tools and processing equipment, propane gas, cast iron solder, cement, cleaning acids, pump packing, gaskets, sealants, solvents, cleaners, hoses, tubing and fittings, etc.
Responsibilities
  • Receives instructions from supervision.
  • Maintain production and processing mechanical equipment, including machine tools, cranes, ovens, shot blasts, etc., including mechanical pneumatic and hydraulic PM, repairs modifications, alignments, etc.
  • Works to close tolerances in the installation, repairs and modification of equipment through the use of precision measuring instruments.
  • Performs mechanical and refractory repairs to boiler-house equipment such as boilers, pumps, compressors, etc.
  • Works with other service employees on the installation of new machinery and equipment as required.
  • Works with production operators to maintain equipment, as required.
  • Removes and replaces belts and lubrication fluids as required in conjunction with normal duties of repairing equipment.
  • Performs rough burning, heating and tack welding as required.
  • Makes periodic inspections of cables, chains, and lifting equipment to OSHA specifications.
  • Performs simple rigging operations and occasional heavy or difficult rigging.
  • Performs various types of masonry work such as laying brick, pouring concrete forms, grouting machinery, setting sewers, concrete finishing, etc.
  • Performs tasks requiring the ability to climb and work in high places.
  • Works from prints, instruction manuals, etc., makes simple sketches, performs simple layouts and makes calculations necessary to perform work.
  • Reports identifying date and time spend on jobs.
  • Describes and specifies replacement parts.
  • Maintains good housekeeping by keeping tools, equipment and material in their proper place and in proper condition.
  • Observes all applicable safety rules.

Qualifications
  • Journeyman’s card OR Associate degree plus 5 years of industrial work experience OR 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Must be available to work overtime, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be able and willing to work 1st shift (7 a.m. - 3 p.m.), 2nd shift (3 p.m. - 11 p.m.), and 3rd shift (11 p.m. - 7 a.m.).
