Mountain Parks Electric has an immediate job opening for the position of Meter Technician located at our company headquarters in Granby, CO. MPEI is an MPEI is an electrical cooperative located in Granby in the north central mountains of Colorado.

Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license in Colorado. High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Have basic understanding of electrical meters, operation of, testing of, and maintenance. Be able to identify energized parts within and around metering installations. Minimum electrical experience in an electrical field of three years. Electrician, meterman and lineman are examples. Tantalus and/or Itron experience is a plus.

Essential job functions include but are not limited to the following duties:

  • Responsible for testing meters, metering peripherals, and maintaining records on computer database.
  • Assists in the training of new meter technicians.
  • Keeps abreast of all changes in first aid procedures and maintains an up to date first aid and CPR card. Knows and applies OSHA regulations and MPE’s safety rules necessary to perform the job.
  • Keeps abreast of new technologies in the metering field, participates in job training and safety meetings, and attends such specialized schools as may be assigned.
  • Performs various duties related to customer service including reading of meters, and meter exchanges. Delivers delinquent account notifications.
  • Serves member/customers by providing service requested, answering questions, and offering assistance.
  • Maintains a safe working environment by adhering to policies, procedures, and regulations. Maintains meter room, all test equipment, parts, and meters in a clean and proper order at all times.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Must have good verbal and written communication skills and have legible handwriting.

Requires the ability to develop plans, procedures, and goals; present information to others; work cooperatively and getting along with others is vital. Meter Technician must have the ability to work under stress and receive constructive criticism. A Meter Technician must have the ability to maintain assigned work hours, work more than 8 hour per day and the ability to work more than 40 hours per week.

Knows, understands, and applies OSHA regulations and MPE’s safety rules necessary to perform the job.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Fifty-five percent of time is spent standing, 25% sitting and 25% walking. Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl reaching and handling material. Meter Tech must be capable of lifting 50 pounds. Be able to work from a ladder or aerial device.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Fifty percent of time is spent outdoors, possibly under adverse weather conditions and exposure to sunlight. There may be a need to work under various hazards such as dust or fumes and possible exposure to various chemicals. Travel to and from assigned jobs by use of company vehicle and at times by commercial means is required.

MPEI owns and operates approximately 1800 miles of line operating at 25kV with approximately 22,000 meters. MPEI is headquartered in Granby, Colorado at 7,935 feet, 90 miles from Denver International Airport and 25 minutes from Rocky Mountain National Park. Experience gold-medal fishing in the Colorado and Fraser Rivers. Take a boat out on Lake Granby, the second largest body of water in Colorado – and near Shadow Mountain and Grand Lakes. Explore miles of hiking trails, connecting Granby to Fraser, Colorado. Our area boasts top notch downhill skiing, mountain bike trail systems, down-hill bike park and cross-country trails at nearby resorts.

Compensation Range

$32.13-$56.95 hourly depending on experience.
