The Media Support Specialist works closely with other members of the Academic Technology Services (ATS) team and in consultation with faculty to creatively design, produce, implement, and document multimedia content in support of educational activities at the University; provide assistance in the use of instructional technologies; and coordinate the educational media needs of faculty, staff, and students.

The ideal candidate will be a forward-thinking multimedia specialist with the ability to create and communicate compelling content in support of teaching, learning, and research. The Media Support Specialist will support all aspects of content creation at the direction of the subject matter expert and/or other ATS staff to include, but not limited to: support for the Learning Management System (currently Canvas), classroom technologies and other technology-enabled teaching and learning resources and systems; video and audio production; field and studio recordings; web content development; and the creation and integration of graphics, titles and animated sequences using Canvas Studio, Adobe Creative Cloud and other supported content production tools.
Responsibilities:
  • In concert with ATS staff, consult with faculty on the selection, design, and development of information technologies in the delivery of the university’s educational programs including, but not limited to, website creation, video production, visual presentations, graphics, multimedia, online course materials, and animations.
  • Collaborate with faculty, subject matter experts and other academic support professionals to develop and deploy appropriate technology-based solutions for online, blended and traditional courses; ensure all courses components meet internal university standards, copyright and accessibility requirements, and universal design guidelines.
  • Facilitate the conversion and/or transfer of educational materials to the web or other digital media formats (i.e., video/audio digitizing and streaming).
  • Provide guidance, training, and support on the use of existing and emerging instructional technology to end users and colleagues via phone, remote-access and desk-side assistance in a timely manner.
  • Develop and deliver workshops, documentation, and desk-side coaching in support of academic technology tools and related services offered by ITS. This includes, but is not limited to: building and updating documentation and video tutorials for LMS and other academic technology tools; writing and maintaining user-friendly, web-based support resources for faculty, staff, and students; and developing documentation and just-in-time training materials for innovative instructional approaches and the effective use of instructional technologies.
  • Contribute to the support needs for recording live events and facilitating videoconferences.
  • Stay abreast of emerging trends in the area of educational technologies, graphics, and presentation media, and when appropriate, make recommendations to supervisor.
  • Collaboratively work with staff to ensure goals and mission of the Academic Technology Services team are achieved.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree with preference for degree in Instructional Technology, Educational Technology, Multimedia/Visual Communications, Graphic Design, or a related field. A minimum of 3 years hands-on experience in web, media and/or graphic production tools and techniques in an academic setting or using a learning management system. Additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree requirement.
  • Prior work experience in an academic environment, working with faculty and students, supporting institutional missions, and collaborating with subject matter experts. Experience with teaching, workshops and trainings, and course design/development a plus.
  • Technical and creative proficiency in some combination of graphic design, web development, video production, visual presentation, graphics, multimedia, user experience design, accessible design, and/or animation software; proven ability to learn new technologies quickly and enthusiastically also required.
  • In-depth knowledge of formats for viewing multimedia content on the web (i.e., compression and video/audio bit rate standards) and current industry technical standards to successfully edit, author, implement and distribute content through an array of media formats with an understanding of accessibility requirements for all formats.
  • Experience in Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, such as Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and After Effects; and other industry-standard tools for creating content and engaging digital platforms.
  • Comprehensive technical knowledge and experience with using and supporting Windows and Mac platforms, Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, Outlook , Google Suite , Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to take on new projects and assignments on short notice.
  • Proven ability to communicate, motivate, and collaborate with others to meet desired outcomes, particularly when collaborators are geographically distributed and/or part-time.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills. This includes but is not limited to: the ability to communicate effectively with people at varying levels of technical fluency – including the ability to explain complex technical issues in a way that non-technical people may understand; the ability to establish collaborative working relationships at all contact levels of the University; and the ability to communicate progress/challenges to appropriate personnel effectively.
  • Excellent written English with an eagle eye for correct grammar, spelling, and inclusive language; the ability to edit while retaining the author’s voice is crucial.
  • Team player with excellent consulting skills and a fun, but professional presence required.
  • Excellent customer service skills; and a high degree of integrity relative to computer security and confidentiality of information required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from a variety of diverse backgrounds in support of a welcoming and inclusive environment.
  • Ability to travel to LI or NYC Campus and/or work nights and weekends on an as-needed basis is required.

New York Tech considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate experience/expertise, education/training, key skills, geographic location, internal peer equity as well as market, organizational considerations and/or applicable collective bargaining agreement when extending an offer.

Minimum Salary: USD $58,500.00/Yr. Maximum Salary: USD $62,500.00/Yr.
