Your Role:
The Mechanical Engineer, Capital Projects will work in a multi-disciplinary team to deliver Monolith’s patented methane pyrolysis technology at World Scale with billion dollar sized plants. You will leverage your experience, critical thinking, solid chemical engineering fundamentals to ensure the engineering requirements of projects are effectively and technically delivered to meet timeline and budget.
You will be a key decision maker, team player, and on the front lines of deploying the most advanced and largest opportunity for clean hydrogen and carbon black into a market that is currently $110 billion dollars and expected to grow to $750 billion on a project that has already progressed through critical design stages and external due diligence. You will be working with a proven team that has successfully scaled up and deployed the next generation of clean hydrogen and carbon black technology. You will be provided with exciting engineering challenges to manage and solve, while working with some of the best in the industry, giving you opportunities to learn, grow, and demonstrate your technical and project management skills on problems to build out a fleet of facilities that real have a real and tangible impact in reducing carbon emissions.
You Will:

  • Steward Monolith’s interests in detailed design and technical specifications to obtain the best possible quality project from EPC Contractor within schedule and cost constraints:
  • Interface with EPC Contractor on key technology and areas where Monolith has significant operating experience regarding reliability, safety, and maintainability
  • Become knowledgeable of the Contract, Scope of Work, and implement Monolith’s interests in the detailed design development while working constructively with the primary Contractor in a team environment
  • Identify and/or review critical deliverables, based on the scope agreed by the Engineering Manager and Discipline Engineers
  • Ensure deliverables are technically fit for purpose and meet the statutory requirements, health and safety laws, regulations, guidelines, codes, and standards, including EPA and OSHA
  • Conducts checks on engineering deliverables produced during EPC to ensure quality of engineered product
  • Identify and coordinate additional reviews as required with subject matter experts, 3rd party consultants, and project Discipline engineers for timely resolution
  • Constructively work with Contractors, Vendors, and other Monolith team members to obtain the best possible engineered product:
  • Coordinate and represent Monolith’s interests in Contractor development meetings and reviews including HAZOP’s and model reviews
  • Proactively identify design and engineering concerns, working directly with Contractor and Monolith team members on best solutions to enable project to meet construction schedule
  • Manage requests for information, change orders, and design change requests during design development
  • Report on engineering performance against the baseline plan
  • Support other functions in Capital Projects team as needed for specific area, including Core Technology Team, Construction Team, Project Controls, Procurement, Contracts, Operations & Maintenance, and Development
  • Work with the project planner to agree mechanical engineering resource requirements and milestones and to monitor progress against them
  • Manage complex risks for successful execution of projects:
  • Facilitate the generation of the engineering risks and mitigations for project risk register, (including 3rd part risk registers) and their ongoing management
  • Review, modify and implement critical ITP’s, ensuring 3rd party vendors adhere to the overall project quality plan throughout the project lifecycle
  • Support the Engineering Manager and other team members in development and updates required for the Project Execution Plan
  • Assist/Lead the development of project specific and Monolith Corporate Technical Specifications
  • Ensure that all identified contractors are suitably pre-qualified/ assured for the delivery of the project.
  • Perform other duties as required

You Have:

  • B.S. Mechanical Engineering, and
  • 5 years of experience, or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the job duties and responsibilities.
  • Detailed knowledge of MS Office Suite, including MS Project and MS Visio
  • Working knowledge of CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.
  • Familiarity with PFDs, P&IDs, and assembly drawings
  • Experience with review and/or development of design deliverables such as PFDs, P&IDs, data sheets, assembly drawings, technical specifications, ITP’s,
  • Familiarity with pressure vessel codes or piping codes (B31.1 or B31.3)
  • Preferred but not required to have experience with one or more of the following industrial systems: high temperature waste heat boilers, carbon black or other solids processing equipment (classifiers, blowers, filters, pelletizers, dryers, storage system, conveyors), pressure vessels (Section I/VIII), Ammonia Plants, Pressure Swing Adsorption Gas Treatment, Steam/BFW systems, pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, high temperature materials
  • Familiarity with project management systems and software such as Primavera, Aconex, etc. preferred
  • Familiar with FEA or CFD analysis preferred

Combination of home office, field office, and contractor offices.
Travel
25% Travel may be required (Field Site, 3rd Party Vendors). Position is based in Kansas City, Kansas.
