MECHANICAL DESIGNER – LAYOUT

DESCRIPTION

We have an immediate opening for an experienced mechanical designer who appreciates solving challenging problems, collaborating with colleagues and customers, and has good attention to detail.

Primary responsibilities:

Coordinate all activities related to the installation of new equipment in lumber mills:

  • Using AutoCAD, design and modify production lines from standard templates;
  • Obtain and use pertinent standards and all the information necessary for the successful layout of the production lines;
  • Create plans to remodel existing facilities;
  • Visit customer sites to obtain certain measurements;
  • Create and check general arrangement drawings and ensure that there is no interference between various machine and other existing equipment;
  • Coordinate with the project team to meet schedule;
  • Collaborate in the continuous improvement program for the company management systems, processes, performance, and machine design;
  • Participate in meetings and project planning.

Required qualifications

  • Degree in mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering technology, computer-aided drafting, or any other combination of relevant experience and training;
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience;
  • Be available to travel on an occasional basis (travel for a few days up to 6 times per year);
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D, SolidWorks 3D, SolidWorks Product Data Management (PDM), and Microsoft Office software;
  • Excellent attendance and punctuality;
  • Position requires frequent to constant sitting and occasional standing, walking, and lifting (up to 20lbs);
  • Have a good oral and written command of English; familiarity with French is a benefit.
