Job Summary:

The Manager of Fleet Maintenance manages the preventative, routine, scheduled, and unscheduled maintenance of all vehicles and equipment for Stevens Pass Resort in a proactive, safe, and efficient manner; providing oversight of all maintenance and special projects as assigned by the Senior Manager of Snow Surfaces, and the Director of Mountain Operations; providing the quality and service required, and maintaining the standards set forth by Vail Resorts. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills and successfully lead experienced fleet mechanics, enabling the highest levels of execution and job satisfaction while working toward excellent team cohesion and effectiveness.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage the entire Stevens Pass Resort fleet, which includes snow cats, snowmobiles, snow blowers, trucks, UTVs, heavy equipment, and other equipment to ensure optimal maintenance, utilization, and rotation of vehicles and equipment.
  • Ensure a prioritized and cohesive process of vehicle and equipment repairs with rapid turnaround, and ensures that quality control procedures are in place and followed.
  • Manage and oversee all staff within the department, with a focus on hiring and training, the enforcement of policies and procedures, performance management, documentations, and safety procedures.
  • Provides training and leadership to staff. Develops and reviews training requirements for mechanics to keep pace with the maintenance requirements of new vehicles, snow cats, snowmobiles, shop tools, and equipment.
  • Develop and manage the departmental and capital budgets to ensure best possible levels of fleet readiness by preparing analysis and strategies to best develop capital requests for the optimal rotation and disposal of all equipment fleets. Develop and manage capital packets for all fleet related purchases.
  • Oversee and keep track of all fuel and fluid transactions. Ensure compliance, safety, updated training, OSHA, Hazmat, SDS, and fuel storage readiness for a year-round operation.
  • Primary point of contact for all essential fleet related vendors and internal customers to ensure strong support.
  • Facilitate staff meetings and help with effective communication with the fleet maintenance team.
  • Ensure close partnership with our grooming operation, terrain parks, and snow removal to best support operation of the fleet, resort grooming, and snow removal goals.
  • Ensure compliance with VRI Company polices with regard to property loss, workers compensation, regulatory compliance, industry best practices, and VRI equipment operation polices.
  • Directly manage goal setting, development plans, and performance management for all departmental staff.
  • Coordinate scheduling for all employees to keep the shop open seven days per week during winter operations, and four days a week during summer.
  • Drive the fleet maintenance culture and the overall Vail Resorts culture to create optimum engagement of employees-providing the experience of a lifetime for our staff and ensuring that they provide it for our guests.
  • Build strong, positive relationships with key stakeholders outside the sphere of direct reports.
  • Direct and oversee the allocation of all equipment to various departments.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Job Qualifications:

Required:

  • High school education or equivalent
  • Minimum of six years of experience in fleet Maintenance
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Strong knowledge of desktop computer and applications – Microsoft office applications
  • Strong English communication skills including verbal & written
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Fleet Maintenance operations in regard to scheduling and tracking of work.

Preferred:

  • Strong organizational experience in relation to fleet tracking and work scheduling
  • Some college experience
  • Three years of supervisory experience with strong management skills


The expected pay range is $65,479 - $79,530 + annual bonus. This is the pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
