Position Summary:
Responsible for all aspects of maintenance (mechanical & electrical) including troubleshooting, repairing, & improving equipment as well as performing preventative maintenance & integrating capital projects. Working independently & cohesively with operators is critical. Will be required to operate all maintenance shop equipment. Evaluate machinery problems and fix according to skills.
Essential Functions:

  • Must pass maintenance aptitude test or be interviewed and approved.
  • Help other maintenance personnel wherever needed. Perform General maintenance.
  • Evaluate machine problems. Train/assist machine operators as needed.
  • Perform general & preventative maintenance duties on machinery and building as required, including basic electrical.
  • Work with the appropriate vendors/suppliers to ensure all equipment, assets, and facilities operate properly & efficiently.
  • Work with the production team to make sure that all equipment is properly working while meeting safety & quality standards.
  • Ensure all aspects of the facility are being maintained, and operational at all times.
  • Work on your tasks at optimal rates, while maintaining safety standards, and be a positive influence on the maintenance & support services team. Positively work with other team members to ensure good efficiency, teamwork & workflow for all.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Flex to other work cells & perform any other duties as needed
  • Communicate with the other shift recent problems or issues encountered.
  • Train other employees to perform the functions of the position.
  • Maintain the machine shop area to be in good clean operating condition. General housekeeping.
  • Report any machine or materials problems to the supervisor/management team.
  • Remove all tools from equipment you are working on once finished & clean up after yourself.
  • Monitor/observe equipment is running properly after you resolve issues before leaving.

Physical Abilities:

  • Continuously required to stand, lift up to 10 lbs., use hands/fingers to conduct work functions.
  • Frequently required to reach above shoulders, twist, turn, walk, look for & listen for issues with equipment, & bend.
  • Occasionally required to lift up to 75-100 lbs. (team lift if needed).
  • Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, sit, climb, balance, use foot/feet to operate machine, or crawl.
  • Required to use hand tools & read a tape measure/ caliper (US & metric).
  • Sensory requirements are communication, hearing, close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus vision.
  • Occasionally exposed to battery acid.
  • Occasionally required to use welder, saws, grinders, drills, torch, lathe, milling machine, knives, saw blades, arbor press, sander, DC tooling, operate scissors lift, PIT vehicles & drive maintenance truck.

Hazard Risks:

  • Special hazards are continuous working with or near moving machine parts & loud noise levels.
  • Moderate risk level of eye injury form welding flash or grinding debris.
  • Moderate risk level of Back injury from lifting.
  • Low level of risk from moving vehicles & falling objects.
  • Frequent exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and electrical shock.
  • Occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme heat, outdoor weather conditions, working in high, precarious places, vibrations, and work/job related travel.

Education, Experience and Skills:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3-5 years’ experience of mechanical maintenance in a paper converting environment.
  • Successful completion of the formal courses listed by the Tech in the Industrial maintenance program. Some of which are; welding, hydraulics, pneumatics, basic electricity, fluid power, ladder logic & control devices, programmable logic, controllers 1, elements of machines, electrical power systems, DC 1 & 2, AC, industrial maintenance math, motor control, electrical schematic reading-motor control 2, industrial electronics basic and advanced, & PLC. Also 6000 hours on the job through the maintenance progression plan.
  • Desire to pursue continued education when required.
  • Must possess physical characteristics to safely & efficiently perform the duties of the job.
  • Advanced mechanical ability and troubleshooting skills are required.
  • Able to follow verbal and written instructions & trainable by other qualified maintenance employees.
  • Legible handwriting & Attention to computer entry detail & accuracy.
  • Must be willing to work whatever shift is open & available.

Safety:

  • Observe all safety rules, practice safe working habits, and report any unsafe situations to a supervisor.
  • Be adequately trained on all safety related programs required by the company.
  • Apply lean manufacturing principles to eliminate waste in the production (such as participating in Safety Blitzes).
