MAINTENANCE APPRENTICE

JOB SUMMARY

4-year Apprenticeship program to become a certified journeyman Maintenance Technician with Gestamp North America. This is an entry level position with the opportunity to receive an Associate’s Degree in Advanced Manufacturing – Mechatronics and become skilled in a specialized trade.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Attend classes at Bridgevalley Community & Technical College and remain in good academic standing throughout the duration of your apprenticeship.

2. 610 class room hours must be completed for the Apprenticeship Program.

3. All Classes will be taken on your time either on site or (local) off site without any wage or travel compensation from Gestamp.

4. On The Job Training hours must be completed for the Apprenticeship Program (8,000). A Gestamp Apprentice may be asked to work different shifts and/or hours throughout the Apprenticeship Program.

5. Maintain a positive attitude and good working relationship with fellow coworkers throughout your apprenticeship.

6. Understand and comply with all OSHA, safety and PPE requirements;

7. Understand and comply with all ISO and environmental requirements.

8. Supports the team in operational improvements.

9. You will receive formal classroom training through Bridgevalley Community & Technical College as part of the Apprenticeship Program in addition to supervised, hands-on, on-the-job training in order to perform the following job duties:

  • Mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic troubleshooting, upkeep and preventive maintenance on cold/hot stamp presses, robots, laser and weld assembly equipment.
  • Recognize and solve machine malfunctions in a timely manner.
  • Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment.
  • Prepare and set up machinery to meet production requirements.
  • Assist in die change operations.
  • Read and understand equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance service: Daily 5S and work area organization, Computerized work order completion via Captor/SAP, Programmable Logic Control to assist with machine operations and efficiency.
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

· High School Diploma or GED

· Valid Driver’s License

· Manufacturing Experience (Preferred)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

· Follow Standardized Work Instructions

· Follow Safety Procedures

· Critical Thinking and ability to problem solve

· Mechanical Aptitude (Preferred)

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION

· Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

· While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle, manipulate, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, talk and hear

· Employee must occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds; 25 overhead.

· While performing the duties of the job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time

· The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate

· The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences

· The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so other will understand

· The ability to concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted

· Work a flexible schedule

· Work overtime as required

· Critical thinking and ability to problem solve.

· Handle the stress of a fast-paced work environment

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.00 per hour
