LINE COOK JOB DESCRIPTION

General Responsibilities:
Arrive on time.

Clock in when you are ready to work.

Promote, work, and act in a manner consistent with the quality and work ethic of New York
Pickle Deli. Come in ready to work with others respectfully and productively.

Understand and comply with the policies of New York Pickle Deli. This includes the cell phone policy and employee meal policy. One is expected to comply with the quality standards, cooking methods, portion sizes, kitchen rules, and safety procedures of New York Pickle Deli.

Follow all COVID-19 rules and regulations so we can create a safe work environment. This includes maintaining healthy hygiene, a healthy lifestyle, and keeping your mask on at all times while working in the restaurant. If you are experiencing any signs of illness, please stay home and contact a manager ASAP.

Frequent hand washing is required in order to prevent any food-borne illnesses. One may use a pair of single-use gloves to prepare food items. Gloves must be thrown away after each task.

Take initiative by keeping yourself busy and learning something new everyday.

Learn the ingredients and preparation of each item on both the lunch and breakfast menus.
(We ask that you learn both in order to become more knowledgeable with the food we serve)

Throughout the day:

Ensure food is stored and cooked at correct temperature by regulating temperature ovens, grills, and other kitchen equipment.

Ensure freshness of food and ingredients by checking for quality, keeping track of old and new items, and rotating stock. This should be checked at the end of the day as well.

Consistently inform team members and/or prep workers when food and supplies are getting low. This is a crucial way to keep food items in stock, and items such as dressings and salads prepared for next day operations.

Be mindful and use all plates, tools, and equipment with care.

Observe, speak, and teach other employees (and new employees) when possible so everyone is consistently following the quality and standards of New York Pickle Deli.

Refrain from being on your cell phone, unless it's an emergency or family related situation.

Be prepared to make orders up until closing time. Even though we close at 2, you are still responsible for preparing food for all customers. All customers who come in should be treated with an inviting hospitality.

Our preferred ticket time is 10-12 minutes.

When a table is up, take your ticket down and yell out "TABLE UP" followed by the table number. This alerts the server to come and pick up the food.

Off-Time: (When there's no orders up.)

Take responsibility for your work area. Please be pro-active and accomplish your tasks in a timely manner. Keep in mind that orders that come in are first priority.

Assist in food prep assignments during off-peak periods as needed. Be proactive in seeking projects for off-peak times.

Keep track of the "Daily Prep list" and "Weekend Prep List" and complete the list before the end of the work day.

Store backups in designated containers and storage areas to prevent spoilage. Label and date backups so everyone can identify the food item in the small fridge. Make sure to fill all dressings.

STOCK, ROTATE, and REDUCE all food items in the small fridge and bain-marie. This applies to all storage rooms and walk-in cooler as well. Maintain cleanliness of refrigerators, bain- marie, walk-in cooler and freezer.

Assist in properly storing the food deliveries in the cooler and freezer.

End of Day:
Assist in closing the kitchen- cover food in bain-marie, plastic wrap and store foods in fridge, clean the grill, bleach and wipe all work counters, sweep and mop floors, spray and wipe down all equipment.

At the end of the work day, check in with your team members before clocking out.

When requesting time off, please do so as soon as you know you need it. We are a small team and we do our best to cover for each other. If your time off request is not 2 weeks or more in advance- your request is not guaranteed.
