The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures furthers the understanding, celebration, and preservation of cinema through inclusive and accessible exhibitions, screenings, programs, initiatives, and collections. Welcoming visitors from Los Angeles and around the world, the Museum works in active partnership with motion picture artists and specialists, scholars, staff, and diverse communities to contextualize and challenge dominant narratives around cinema, inspiring discourse, connection, joy, and discovery.
Reporting to the Lighting Design Manager, the Lighting Technician is responsible for the safe handling and installation of lighting equipment for the Museums various departments, with an emphasis on the Exhibition Design & Production department. You will be working with multiple teams such as AV, Fabrication, Art Handlers, Registrar, Conservation, among others.
This is a part-time, temporary role.
You Will:
- Hang and focus lights.
- Prep, install, deinstall, maintenance & troubleshooting of equipment and systems.
- Build and test prototypes or proofs-of-concept for Museum exhibits and displays.
- Update inventory and organize storage spaces for lighting.
- Update lighting paperwork such as Vectorworks and Lightwright.
- Openly receive feedback on safe practices when working around art.
- Have duties primarily for the Exhibitions Design & Production department, with potential support for other departments such as Theaters, Base Building and/or Special Events.
