Pine Run Retirement Community, a member of Doylestown Health, is looking to hire a part-time (Saturdays only) Lifeguard for our indoor pool.

* The position is flexible as to how many Saturdays a month you would work. The hours for the position are 9am-2pm

* You must have a valid Lifeguard certificate.

Safety

  • Monitor pool for swimmer safety.
  • Remain alert and attentive while guarding from the provided lifeguard stand. Always remain “on stand” while swimmers are in the pool – with the brief exception of assisting Villagers/Residents in and out of pools via lift, or setting up/removing lane lines.
  • When away from lifeguard stand, carry rescue tube and emergency pendant at all times.
  • Ensure at the start of each shift that the walkie-talkie is on the lifeguard stand.
  • Before leaving the lifeguard stand to make a rescue, announce such on walkie-talkie so that Security can come to assist. After situation has been resolved, contact Director of Fitness & Aquatics and document incident on an incident report, and submit to Director of Fitness & Aquatics.
  • At the beginning of each shift, use the Taylor test kit to check and document free chlorine, pH level, and water temperature in pool, and re-check every other hour thereafter throughout shift.
  • Assist swimmers by setting up appropriate ropes and lane lines when needed.
  • Ensure that all Villagers, Residents, Family members, Associates, Guests, and Prospective residents comply with posted safety requirements and rules.
  • Assist Villagers and Residents as needed into the pool and pool area, especially those using assistive devices (e.g. walkers, canes) for balance.
  • Assist Villagers and Residents as needed on/off the chair lift, and in/out of pool as needed.
  • At the end of each shift, ensure that all doors into/out of pool area are locked, secured and double check them – then check off on chart that you have done so.
  • Complete Villager/Resident Incident Report and submit to Director of Fitness & Aquatics for any accidents, injuries, or unusual events.
  • Contact Director of Fitness & Aquatics after an emergency or rescue, or when an issue has been identified with chemicals, water clarity, heating/dehumidifying system, or mechanical rooms of pools. For emergent issues, contact the Director of Fitness & Aquatics, or if unable to reach – contact the Senior Director of Healthy Living immediately.

Dependability

  • Serve as the “emergency substitute” for aquatics instructor when needed; leading Villagers/Residents in programming while lifeguarding from stand, or set up laminated lesson plans for class members to follow.
  • For time off requests, notify the Director of Fitness & Aquatics well in advance, and assist with finding coverage. In the event of sickness or emergency, contact the Director of Fitness & Aquatics a minimum of 2 hours before start of shift.

Cleanliness

  • At the beginning of each shift, ensure that clean towels are out, stacked, and available for use.
  • At the end of shift, gather used pool towels/hamper and follow departmental procedure for them before leaving for the day.
  • OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Attends and actively participates in meetings and on committees as required.
  • Demonstrates understanding and complies with Pine Run’s EXPOSURE PREVENTION PLAN for occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens.
  • Adheres to Pine Run Policies and Procedures, and Fire/Disaster Plan.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

  • WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Frequent contact with Associates, Villagers, Residents and family members, guests, prospective residents, and pool vendors.

This means:

Category I: Those performing tasks that involve regular exposure (twice a week or more) to blood, body fluids or mucus membranes and require use of protective measures.

Category II: Those performing tasks that involve no exposure to blood, body fluid or tissues, but which could become a potential for exposure.

Category III: Those performing tasks that involve no exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues.

  • JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must pass required health screen and testing before employment begins and yearly thereafter, as applicable to the position.
  • Must have an acceptable criminal history report as defined by the Older Adults Protective Services Act and its amendments.
  • Current CPR/AED certification.
  • Current Lifeguard Certification from a recognized certifying authority in PA: The American Red Cross, Jeff Ellis and Associates, Lifeguard-Pro, YMCA, The Boy Scouts of America, Starfish Aquatics Institute, or National Aquatic Safety Company.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Effective, appropriate, and strong communication skills with seniors.
  • Responsible, patient, dependable.
