Assists patrons in use of library, audiovisual, and electronic information services.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities
include the following. Other duties may be assigned:


  • Oversees registration of patrons, charging and discharging of library materials, organization of incoming materials, and distribution of materials to appropriate areas.

  • Maintains and coordinates reserve resources collection.

  • Coordinates interlibrary loan services with those at the WW Library.

  • Collects and accounts for fees.

  • Resolves patron complaints and makes appropriate referrals as necessary.

  • Prepares handouts and directional displays, and furnishes information on library activities, facilities, rules, services, and user services.

  • Assists in selection of materials for library collection.

  • Assembles and arranges displays of books and other library materials.

  • Assists in preparation of budget and financial reports for the JKC Library.

  • Inputs and updates data in online databases as may be needed.

  • Provides general information about library services and facilities.

  • Helps patrons in the use of public access catalog, library computer systems, and multimedia equipment.

  • Answer routine inquiries using standard bibliographic materials and/or computer data systems, and refers those requiring professional assistance to a professional library staff person.

  • Assists with collection development by recommending titles and subject areas to the professional staff person responsible for acquiring library resources.

  • As needed, searches standard print and online sources to verify bibliographic information on order requests.
  • Maintains databases and prepares information and statistical data for reports and special studies.
  • Schedules and directs activities of workers engaged in maintaining stacks, ordering or receiving acquisitions, inputting catalog data.
  • Designs and prepares exhibits of library materials.
  • Participates in evaluating and developing new technology to improve services.
  • Assists in developing bibliographies, databases, and Web pages.
  • Prepares semi-annual and annual reports for submission to the library director.
  • Maintains library daily statistics and prepares monthly reports.
  • Participates in the library and college-wide assessment efforts.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education, plus two (2) years library experience required.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Must hold a valid driver’s license.
