Required Degree: MLS from an ALA-accredited institution

OR

If the applicant does not have an MLS, a master’s or doctoral degree in history, archival or museum studies or a related field is required.

Individuals without an MLS must complete the MLS degree within a specific period of time. They will be provided a minimum of 43 months from date of hire.

The required degree must be completed by the start date.

Experience:

  • 2+ years of archival processing experience
  • Demonstrated understanding, application of, and ability to make independent decisions based in archival theory, principles, and practices, including arrangement and description.
  • Ability to apply the standards outlined in Describing Archives: A Content Standard, Resource Description & Access and other national standards related to manuscript/archival materials.
  • Experience working with diverse collections, including institution records, artificial collections, personal papers, and materials of various formats including audio-visual and born-digital.
  • Ability to learn and use archival and collection management software such as ArchivesSpace and project management software.
  • Strong project management skills.

Duties/Expectations:

  • Provides leadership and strategic direction for the Archival Processing Section, guiding the APS’s priorities and aligning the unit’s work with the Library’s mission and strategic objectives.
  • Oversees archival processing workflows including housing, arrangement, description, quality control, and tracking of collections within the APS.
  • Functions as project manager for processing of manuscript and archival collections.
  • Coordinates with groups including Special Collections, Collection Management, Acquisitions, Digital Initiatives, Conservation, and Library IT to ensure fulfillment of obligations related to university and library policy.
  • Participates in the national archives community to both understand and shape current trends and standards.
  • Scholarship/Creative Work: Publishes significant and original contributions relevant to the library or archives profession and/or the world of academic scholarship in archival processing, archival description, information retrieval, and archives management.
