Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the Directory of Laboratory Services, the lead tech for each laboratory section (Blood Bank, Chemistry. Hematology/Coagulation/Urinalysis, Microbiology, Serology/Point-of-Care Testing) performs administrative review and record keeping to meet regulatory compliance for their assigned laboratory section. This includes but is not limited to staff training & competency assessments, ordering & inventory, regulatory compliance, communication with vendors, communication with staff , preventative maintenance, proficiency testing, test and instrument validations, policy & procedures, and quality improvement projects. The Quality Lead performs quality assurance functions for the laboratory. This includes, but is not limited to management & review of quality control, calibrations, correlations, calibration verifications, linearities, maintenance records, proficiency testing, and other quality assurance functions as assigned. The quality lead will work with the section lead techs to gather information used to prepare monthly reports for review by the laboratory administrative and medical directors each lead tech reports errors, deficiencies, and technical concerns to laboratory administration as needed. Lead techs are a technical resource in their assigned laboratory section for employees and students performing laboratory testing throughout the organization. Lead techs must have a working knowledge of the Meditech laboratory modules, including being able to create or modify test parameters and quality control functions. Lead techs perform the same laboratory functions as the medical technologists and medical laboratory technicians. The lead tech is a team leader for all employees within the department of laboratory services.

  • Required Qualifications*
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Proof of highest level of education completed but not less than high school education or equivalent as recognized by an approved government accreditation association.
  • Bachelor’s degree or an Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or other related clinical science field required or equivalent acceptable education as defined by CLIA.
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technologist or Medical Laboratory Technician by a nationally recognized registry of medical laboratory technology required. The American Society of Clinical Pathologists, American Medical Technologist, National Certification Association and HEW are some examples of acceptable certification.
  • 3 years’ experience as a MT or MLT in a hospital or reference laboratory is required.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in oral and written form required.
  • An understanding of computer systems, process design and data management.
  • Must have a well-groomed, professional appearance.
  • Required to have the mental and physical ability to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation, the essential functions of the job.
  • Ability to lift, carry, pull, & push 50 pounds.
  • Language proficiency in English, with excellent written and verbal fluency.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous Meditech experience or other related electronic records systems.
  • Basic knowledge of system application implementation, enhancement, development and support methods and practices.
