Lead Driver

Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Transportation Coordinator, the Lead Driver leads Transportation Drivers in day-to-day operations; Orients and trains Transportation Department Drivers and Escort staff members; Assists with coordination of communication between Transportation and other departments as needed; Performs duties of Driver.


Specifications

Education and Special Training: High School degree or equivalent.

Experience: 1 year of experience transporting individuals with special mobility needs; 1 year of experience with the frail, aging or elderly; minimum of one year of team-oriented supervisory experience in a customer service setting; minimum of one year of PACE experience required.

Licensure, Registry or Certification Required: Valid North Carolina (NC) Driver’s License and safe driving record. Upon employment, defensive driving course, First Aid and CPR are required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Must have good interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively in a team environment. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to control personal emotions. Ability to only act within the scope of his or her authority to practice. Must meet a standardized set of competencies for the specific position description established by PACE of Guilford and Rockingham Counties and approved by CMS before working independently.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Provides daily oversight of assigned transportation duties including, but not limited to deployment of assigned driver routes and the coordination of participant appointments and their daily completion in a safe, efficient and professional manner for all Transportation Department team members.
  • Assures that Driver team member duties have been completed in a safe and efficient manner. Duties include, but are not limited to route match manifest accuracy, daily vehicle logs, daily and routine maintenance checks, vehicle inspection checks, and that other pertinent vehicle records are up to date according to NC DMV standards. Also ensures that all transportation team member recording keeping logs are up to date, accurate and also meet guidelines as established by PACE and the Transportation Coordinator.
  • Ensures that the Daily Census is accurate and has been completed in a timely manner, generally no later than 11 a.m.
  • Orients and trains newly hired PACE Drivers, Contracted Drivers and Transportation Escorts, as well as staff members who are pre-approved to participate in the Driver cross training program.
  • Responsible for the completion of initial and annual Driver Competencies.
  • Collaborates with Transportation Coordinator and Transportation Scheduler to ensure assigned duties, tasks and responsibilities for all Drivers and the Transportation Department are met according to established guidelines.
  • Promotes teamwork and models professional behavior to ensure prioritization of quality care for participants and caregivers is consistently met.
  • Works cooperatively with staff members and vendors to achieve Transportation Department objectives as established by PACE and the Transportation Coordinator.
  • Works closely with Transportation Coordinator in facilitating quality transportation services and an effective Transportation Department workflow.
  • Communicates effectively with participants, families, staff and other departments and agencies.
  • Collaborates with Quality and Informatics Coordinator on performance improvement projects, both on-going and short term.
  • Assists with departmental orientation and onboarding processes and the consistent completion of monthly trainings for Transportation Department staff members. Communicates challenges to Transportation Coordinator and Staff Development Coordinator as necessary.
  • Provides Route Match reports for compliance / audit purposes.
  • Conduct random driver location audits to ensure adherence to established policies and procedures.
  • Ensures all vans meet Adult Day Health and CMS regulatory and safety standards per established guidelines.
  • Conducts and documents quarterly ride-along sessions with Drivers to ensure compliance with established safety and compliance guidelines. Sessions will include defensive driving techniques and recommendations to enhance customer service, safety and route adjustments as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
