LEAD / PRINCIPAL SY S TEMS DESIGN ENGINEER

THE ROLE:
We are looking for a dynamic, energetic Lead / Principal Systems Design Engineer to join our growing team. As a key contributor to the success of AMD’s product, you will be part of a leading team to drive and improve AMD’s abilities to deliver the highest quality, industry-leading technologies to market. The Systems Design Engineering team fosters and encourages continuous technical innovation to showcase successes as well as facilitate continuous career development.

THE PERSON:
As a Leader in Systems Design Engineering, you will drive balanced, scalable, and automated solutions. In this high visibility position, your software systems engineering expertise will be necessary towards product development, definition, and root cause resolution.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Research, design, develop, and/or test operating systems-level software, compilers, and/or network distribution software for semiconductor operations, applying principles and techniques of computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis.
  • Support, maintain, and upgrade code for software infrastructure associated with central processing unit (CPU), graphics processing unit (GPU), and/or system on a chip (SOC) devices. Drive software optimization by suggesting designs, features, and/or modifications to improve functionality and performance of AMD’s products.
  • Test software for hardware compatibility and/or to influence hardware design. Analyze software performance, implement algorithms, and evaluate complex technical data to identify, debug, and troubleshoot issues.
  • Show technical leadership on small to mid-size projects and on definable portions of larger projects related to developing and advancing AMD’s technology.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional design and engineering teams on new product initiatives.
  • Communicate the status of software development projects and related interdependencies to management or senior engineers in technical staff.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
  • Linux or Windows internals;
  • Unix or Linux environments;
  • C or C++;
  • OS kernel & systems development;
  • Multi-threading, low-level device drivers, and embedded driver development;
  • Software debugging, (macOS or Linux/Unix); and
  • Data structures.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in electrical or computer engineering

Qualifications:
At AMD, your base pay is one part of your total rewards package. Your base pay will depend on where your skills, qualifications, experience, and location fit into the hiring range for the position. You may be eligible for incentives based upon your role such as either an annual bonus or sales incentive.
