The LDR-OR Coordinator will utilize the nursing process to provide care for women in obstetrics, in the operative setting, with regard to the promotion and maintenance of health and the prevention of illness and injury. Using a systematic critical-thinking approach to guide data gathering, assessment, nursing judgment, intervention and evaluation of human responses to actual and potential health problems through activities such as health teaching, health counseling and the provision of surgical care supportive and restorative of life and supportive of a peaceful death. Responsibilities include: To identify patient needs before, during and after surgery using the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) Synergy Model. To delegate, coordinate and manage all aspects of nursing care provided to the patient in the operative setting, their family and our community in a timely and cost-effective manner. To deliver patient care in collaboration with the patient, their family, all members of the health care team and with the knowledge of a licensed, board certified physician. Demonstrates critical thinking skills, scientific judgment and leadership in the anticipation and planning for the care of the patient in the operating room. As a member of the surgical team LDROR Coordinator works with the obstetricians/surgeons, anesthesiologists, OR techs and other personnel to provide patient care in the Operating Room according to the Alabama State Nurse Practice Act, AORN and regulatory standards, physician orders, policies and procedures of the Hospital and the Surgical Department. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: ensuring supplies, timeliness of cases, communication with families, updating of physician preferences, scrubbing and assisting physicians during surgical cases, and supervision of personnel delivering patient care. Associate’s degree in nursing required; Bachelor's degree or Master’s preferred. BLS, ACLS and NRP certification are required.

At least 5 years of nursing experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Knowledge of obstetrics care, fetal monitoring comprehension and interpretation are required. This individual in this level of nursing will directly report to the Director of Women’s Services, but shall also collaborate with the leaders and managers of LDR, OBED, Postpartum, Nursery, NICU, Infection Prevention, and Quality & Risk Management.
