Position Title: Laminating Operator

Reports To: Lamination/Slit Manager

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Proper adherence to and fulfillment of all tasks defined within, but not limited to GMP’s, SQF Preventative Measures and Prerequisite Programs, HAACP Plan, Work Instructions, and/or CPG Policies critical to effective implementation of the Product Safety Management System.

2. Responsible to report any Product Safety concerns to department manager, plant manager or Director of Quality Assurance.

3. Must exhibit knowledge and competency of PSMS, Quality and manufacturing process requirements.

4. Line Clearance-confirm prior job completion and all materials, including labels for that job have been removed from line and work area prior to the change-over to next job.

5. The operator is responsible for the equipment set up and productivity.

6. The operator is responsible for the performance of his crew.

Other duties include:

• Check the job order for material and tooling requirements. Notify the supervisor or QC if information is not complete. No job is to be run without an order.
• Confirm that the staged material matches the order, printed film and base film.
• Prior to machine start up the glue head operation has to be physically checked. Two unrestricted glue / catalyst streams must be evident. Test must be done with the static mixer off.
• The static mixer insert must be changed daily, unless running continuous 24 hour shifts.
• The glue / catalyst ratio must be confirmed by a weigh check at the start of the day. After that the ratio should be confirmed using the adhesive unit touch screen.
• The coating head gap should be set with a feeler gauge after change over’s or the machine being washed up and idle. The gauges should then be zeroed out.
• The printed roll number should be documented on the check sheet and stored in the job envelope.
• The base roll number from the sample with roll ticket attached should be documented on the check sheet. The retain sample should be stored in the job jacket.
• The adjuster must confirm that the base roll was mounted with the treatment in the required direction.
• The coating weight has to be checked on the operator and gear side at the targeted run speed prior to starting the production run. After that the weights have to be checked at the end of each roll. Rolls out of range have to be tagged for disposition.
• End of roll samples have to be inspected for lamination and adhesive lay down appearance. They must be tagged with a roll label.
• Anything affecting product quality or machine run speed must be documented.
• Any cleaning of dried glue on contact surfaces is to be done with Acetate followed by alcohol then a Sani Wipe pass.
• If the job cannot be run to meet specifications it is to be stopped and the supervisor notified for a disposition on proceeding or changing over.
• The supervisor is to be notified of any mechanical or material problems and the job paperwork documented. This includes the condition of the rubber roll if it requires machining.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

The Lamination operator must have a good hands-on working knowledge of the lamination area and all its associated equipment. Precise measuring and weighing is critical. Good communication skills, as well as mechanical and problem solving abilities are necessary. Basic math skills and knowledge of the computer system for shift reporting is a must. Bilingual - Spanish is REQUIRED!

Other duties include:

• Antes de arrancar la máquina, la operación del cabezal de pegamento tiene que ser comprobada físicamente. Dos flujos de pegamento / catalizador sin restricciones deben ser evidentes. La prueba debe realizarse con el mezclador estático apagado.
• La plaquita estática del mezclador debe cambiarse diariamente, a menos que se ejecuten turnos continuos de 24 horas.
• La relación pegamento / catalizador debe ser confirmada por una comprobación de pesaje al comienzo del día. Después de eso, la relación debe confirmarse utilizando la pantalla táctil de la unidad adhesiva.
• La separación del cabezal de recubrimiento debe ajustarse con un medidor de sensación después del cambio o la máquina que se lava e inactiva. A continuación, los medidores deben ponerse a cero.
• El número de rollo impreso debe documentarse en la hoja de verificación y almacenarse en el sobre del trabajo.
• El número de rollo base de la muestra con ticket de rollo adjunto debe documentarse en la hoja de verificación. La muestra de retención debe almacenarse en la chaqueta de trabajo.
• El ajustador debe confirmar que el rollo base se montó con el tratamiento en la dirección requerida.
• El peso del recubrimiento debe comprobarse en el lado del operador y del engranaje a la velocidad de carrera objetivo antes de iniciar la ejecución de producción. Después de eso, los pesos tienen que ser revisados al final de cada rollo. Los rollos fuera del rango tienen que ser etiquetados para su disposición.
• Las muestras de fin de rollo tienen que ser inspeccionadas para la laminación y el aspecto de colocación adhesiva. Deben estar etiquetados con una etiqueta de rollo.
• Cualquier cosa que afecte a la calidad del producto o a la velocidad de funcionamiento de la máquina debe documentarse.
• Cualquier limpieza de pegamento seco en superficies de contacto debe hacerse con acetato seguido de alcohol y luego un pase Sani Wipe.
