This is an entry level position performing manual and general skilled work assisting in the maintenance and repair of the City’s street and sewer infrastructure. General knowledge in the trades is desirable. This position would assist in the maintenance of the City’s infrastructure including but not limited to the following: general street, sanitary sewer and storm sewer maintenance, refuse/recycling collection, general tree and landscaping maintenance, general street light and traffic maintenance, snow removal, etc. Typical duties include but are not limited to: assisting at the city's residential drop-off sites; building and delivery of refuse and recycling carts; assisting on "bulk" and brush collection crews; assisting Crewmembers on garbage and recycling routes; picking up litter on boulevards and along city fence lines; working on/with asphalt, crack sealing, and concrete crews repairing and patching city streets, sidewalks, and lots; cutting and trimming of grass on city owned property, culverts, and ditches; winter snow and ice control utilizing pick-up truck with plow blade; works outdoors continuously on assigned duties during all types of weather and during all seasons of the year. As needed, an employee in this classification may be required to perform a variety of tasks outside of duties in Sanitation and Streets Division; other duties may include, but are not limited to, light to heavy manual labor and a variety of manual and semi-skilled duties associated with a Laborer position; maintains prompt, predictable, and regular physical attendance; provides truthful and accurate written and verbal communications; maintains ability to lawfully operate a designated motor vehicle at all times; performs other manual duties as assigned throughout DPW.

Examples of Duties

Assist in concrete finishing and laboring including all prep work such as digging, grading, setting/building forms for pavement, curbs and sidewalks.
Assist in routine maintenance of sanitary sewer mains, operating sanitary sewer jet, examining mains for issues, maintenance, and evaluation purposes.
Assist with routine maintenance of catch basins and manholes.
Operate various equipment common to construction and maintenance activities.
Crack fill and pothole work with asphalt, including patch work on streets, alleys, curbs and sidewalks.
Assist in emergency work of all types including but not limited to snow/ice control, flooding, wind storms, all natural disasters and sanitary sewer pumping.
Assist in finishing asphalt work including all prep such as removal of debris, grading and tacking.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent
Valid WI driver's license
Good driving record per City policy - see application for details
Ability to obtain Commercial Driver's License within 12 months of hire
Ability to perform heavy manual labor outside in all weather conditions

Pay: $17.74 - $20.27 per hour
