Virginia Haynesville Correctional Ctr Richmond County, VA

This position provides laboratory support in the Medical Department and primarily performs various lab tests, such as blood counts, sodium and potassium analysis, serum chemistries, urinalysis, and a number of other procedures.

Performs control-value testing on equipment, updates charts and records, schedules appointments, and maintains documentation in appropriate logs and files.

Provides orientation to medical staff and offenders, and maintains adequate and appropriate lab supplies.

Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from a laboratory technology program or experience under an apprenticeship laboratory program.

Working knowledge and demonstrated experience of venipuncture, arterial puncture, sterile techniques, manual and automated laboratory procedures and equipment, use of autoclave, record keeping, microbiology, and laboratory knowledge.

Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with co-workers, supervisors, patients, vendors and other agencies, to maintain records; to record and report test results; to order laboratory supplies; to operate standard laboratory equipment and to follow established laboratory procedures and manage/meet all deadlines.

Demonstrated skill and proficiency in the use of computers and related hardware, applications, and software to include the Internet and Microsoft Office or similar office productivity software, and automated databases.

Working laboratory knowledge; Sufficient on-the job experience, while in training or school is appropriate.

Experience with gathering, analyzing, and compiling information, as well as entering data and evaluating/presenting information.

Must be able to communicate clearly both orally and in writing, to work independently, and prioritize assignments.

Ability to accurately assess situations.

Ability to work independently and prioritize assignments.

Working knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of record keeping.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience working directly with diverse groups of clients, co-workers, and community agencies.

Working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques of offender case management.

Experience working in a Corrections or Law enforcement environment or experience in the Criminal Justice System.
