UNHS is hiring a Full-Time (FT) position for a Laboratory Lead Assistant.

  • Locations: Montezuma Creek, Utah

Perform the following as assigned by the lab lead:

  • Responsible for scientific and technical on site and over-site of the laboratory
  • Available by on-site, telephone, or electronic consultation
  • Selection of test methodology as approved by Lab system supervisor and/or Technical consultant
  • Verification of test procedures and the establishment of the laboratory’s test performance characteristics. a) Precision and accuracy of each test and test system.
  • Enrollment and participation in proficiency testing.
  • Establishment of a Quality Control Program.
  • Over-site of compliance program
  • Resolving technical problems and ensuring remedial actions are taken
  • Ensuring that patient results are not reported until corrective actions are taken
  • Identifying training needs and ensuring regular in-service training and education
  • Evaluating and annually documenting the competency of all testing personnel (including Point of Care personnel). a) Direct observation, b) Monitoring of recording and reporting of test results , c) Assessment of test performance, d) Assessment of problem solving skills
  • Annual performance evaluations of all testing personnel.
  • Establish and maintain Quality Assurance Program.
  • Day-to day supervision of Testing Personnel
  • Monitoring test analysis and specimen examinations.
  • Specimen processing, test performance, and reporting of test results.
  • Maintains records for patients, quality controls, proficiency testing, and quality assurance.
  • Follow all laboratory procedures established by the laboratory.
  • Follow corrective actions
  • Report and document critical values
  • Documents all corrective actions taken
  • Responsible for writing and updating procedure and policy manuals
  • Responsible for maintaining proper environmental controls
  • Responsible for preventative maintenance of equipment
  • Responsible for scheduling work times for employees
  • Responsible for ordering supplies and maintaining stock.
  • Responsible for yearly cost analysis of test methodologies and pricing.
Requirements:
  • Create, Review, and Manage monthly report to Laboratory Consultant
  • Maintains competency in all areas: Maintain in-depth knowledge of techniques, principles, and operations; Demonstrate a thorough knowledge and understanding of policies and procedures in performing job duties; Review laboratory policy and procedure manuals to remain current in operating guidelines; Pass annual competency evaluations in each job responsibility.
  • Maintain report of adverse events with follow up as recommended by Laboratory Medical Director and Technical Consultant
  • Assist Laboratory Consultant during all COLA or CLIA surveys that may take place.
  • Maintains records of quality control and assurance procedures.
  • Schedule and hold monthly meetings with lab staff, Technical consultant and Lab system supervisor, to provide education and update on any new procedures. Document those in attendance and meeting minutes.
  • Document assign cleaning schedule and expired supply removal and return document to your supervisor on a monthly basis

Experience, Training, and Qualifications needed to perform the job:

  • Must have a high school diploma
  • Have at least 2 years of laboratory training or experience with a minimum of 1 year in moderate/waived testing.
  • Must be able to safely lift, push and pull fifty (50) pounds or more above waist

License/Certification:

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check
  • Must obtain and maintain First Aid/Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification
  • Must receive annual inoculation of flu vaccine

As a Tribal Organization the Utah Navajo Health System, Inc. (UNHS) treats patients with high risk and underlying chronic medical conditions. Therefore, UNHS requires its employees to show proof of immunization prior to their employment with UNHS or during their employment. Below is a list of immunizations/vaccinations required to be employed or to continue employment with UNHS.
The immunizations/vaccinations include but not limited to following:

  • MMR (Measles Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella): Documentation of two MMR vaccines (OR) Documentation of MMR titers.
  • Complete Hepatitis B vaccine series (3 doses), documented proof of titers indicating immunity, or a declination that may be signed upon arrival.
  • Proof of up-to-date PPD skin testing, if previously negative (OR) Proof of positive PPD skin test with the most recent chest x-ray and treatment history.
  • Tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap).
  • Varicella titers, history of varicella or varicella immunization series.
  • Influenza vaccine for the current year.
  • COVID-19 vaccine
  • Any other vaccinations as requested.
