This Laboratory Assistant will be responsible for:
  • Monitoring and maintaining laboratory supplies in technologist work areas; restocking supplies if necessary
  • Checking all storage areas in the laboratory for any surplus stock and distributing accordingly
  • Maintaining the cleanliness and tidiness of the laboratory
  • Collecting, washing, and sterilizing dirty or contaminated glassware and supplies from labs
  • Cleaning laboratory equipment/lab spaces; removes/disposes of expired material
  • Operating glass washers, dryers, and autoclaves

In order to qualify, you must have:
  • A high school/GED education is required
  • Skills to follow directions, read, add and subtract numbers, and make comparisons between numbers and letters, use basic equipment
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to understand and respond to simple written or verbal instructions
  • Incumbents must respond appropriately to instructions, questions or requests for information
  • Occasionally requires contact with patients and/or visitors, which involves courtesy
Physical Requirements include:
Frequently lifting and carrying patients/children/objects weighing up to 10 pounds and occasionally lifting and carrying patients/children/objects weighing 11 to 20 pounds.Regularly stooping and bending. Regularly reaching and grasping objects below shoulder level, frequently reaching and grasping objects at shoulder level and occasionally reaching and grasping objects above shoulder level. Frequently pushing and/or pulling non motorized equipment (e.g., stretcher, food cart, mop, etc.) weighing 11 to 20 pounds and regularly pushing and/or pulling non motorized equipment weighing over 50 pounds. Frequently grasping and fine manipulation with hands. Regularly sitting and standing. Regularly proofreading and checking documents for accuracy. Regularly inputting/retrieving words or data into or from an automated/computer system.
