Title: Interpreter/Parent Liaison


Qualifications:


Bilingual (English/Spanish) Literacy and Oral Proficiency, High School Diploma, organizational and computer skills, an honest work ethic, a desire to serve the LEP population, good communication skills, and a willingness to be a team player.


Essential Functions:

  • Translate a variety of documents (literary, legal, technical, educational) and other materials, insuring preservation of original meaning;
  • Consult with colleagues in order to understand specialized concepts and translate them appropriately;
  • Refer to online translation tools for additional assistance with translation/interpretation;
  • Schedule meetings and appointments;
  • Attend meetings to translate/interpret for non-English speaking families;
  • Build and maintain trusting relationships with families;
  • Work with colleagues from different specialties to provide support to families
  • Communicate with parents, teachers and administrators to understand student's and family's challenges specific to their culture and native languages;
  • Must also be able to perform receptionist duties when needed in school offices (welcome visitors, answer phone calls and take/deliver messages.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Due to the amount of time spent standing and/or walking, physical requirements are consistent with those for light work.


Minimum Job Requirements:


  • High School Diploma
  • A minimum of 2 years of working with parents, families, and community members
  • Ability to communicate effectively with parents, schools, community and district personnel both orally and in writing
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Valid Driver’s License
