Emerge Washington Intern/Program Assistant Position Description

Founded in 2017, Emerge Washington is the premier political leadership training organization for Democratic women in Washington. Our mission is to recruit, train and inspire Democratic women to pursue public office at the local, state, and national levels through our 65+ hour Signature Training program. Emerge Washington levels the playing field by recruiting and training Democratic women who want to run for office, but who may feel they lack the necessary knowledge or connections to mount a successful campaign. While women comprise more than 50% of the electorate, they still hold just 29% of elected offices in this country. Emerge Washington is an affiliate of Emerge, a national organization currently working in 27 states.

This role:

Emerge WA is seeking an intern/program assistant to help with the operations of our 2023 training cohort, among other duties, starting approximately Dec. 1 of this year and working until June 5, 2023. This person would be paid an hourly rate of $25 for approximately 60 hours of work a month. Some weekend work would be involved, specifically during the training weekends, the dates for which can be found at this link: https://wa.emergeamerica.org/training/application-process/

The primary job responsibilities would be: (These may subject to change based on the organization’s needs and the applicant’s interests)

Training Implementation: Help with logistics during program training days, including sending reminders to trainers and facilitating their arrival in the physical or virtual space; help gather training and curriculum materials for the program; revise program curriculum materials as needed; scout potential locations and anticipate logistical needs.

Communications: Help expand and maintain the online presence of Emerge Washington; develop graphics to communicate our message.

Candidate Recruitment: Contribute to outreach efforts for recruitment by researching potential applicants; assist with the interview process; attend events on behalf of Emerge.

Fundraising: Research potential donors and funding opportunities and prepare related materials; assist with event management and coordination of fundraisers; assist with call time.

Administration: Acquire and organize materials and files; data entry and database management.

Alumnae Support: Update and maintain database with latest contact data, election results and alum updates; maintain contact with program alums.

Community Building: Attend events on behalf of Emerge; research Democratic and other like-minded organizations in order to further collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications:

Passionate about the advancement of women in politics

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Experience with fundraising, social media, event planning, political organizing, and training is a plus

Able to make a commitment of 15-20 hours per week for at least six months
