What you will do... An integral HME Department team member, the HME Intake Specialist provides administrative support to the high volume HME Department and responds to staff and patient needs utilizing a variety of office systems. This includes general clerical processes for the Home Medical Equipment program with respect to referrals, admissions, medical orders, insurance verification, and medical records. Medical billing experience is a plus for this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: _*

  • Processes clinical data including but not limited to computer entry of referral data and orders for HME services. Prepares and maintains both physical and electronic client records.
  • Responds to telephone, fax, and email inquiries and orders from referral sources and homecare patients.
  • Obtains any and all required medical records regarding HME clients.
  • Verifies clients’ insurance coverage for HME services.
  • Verifies providers’ status on the Medicare Provider Enrollment, Chain, and Ownership System (PECOS).
  • Initiates delivery tickets, ABNs (if necessary), Financial agreements, Plans of Care and intake packets.
  • Audits records to ensure completeness.
  • Responds to inquiries regarding general program information. Serves as a resource to recommend services to agency staff.
  • Prepares reports and audits as requested by supervisor.
  • Makes initial contact with patient to inform them of the receipt of their referral and to initiate delivery coordination.
  • Maintain the Patient Service Technician delivery schedule based on urgency, driving schedule and patient priority.
  • Maintain the filing and destruction of relevant DME patient charting.
  • Performs occasional local deliveries as needed and participates in the on-call rotation.

Your Qualifications include...

  • One year experience in a medical setting.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • General proficiency with computers and office productivity software required.
  • Strong communication skills and report writing abilities required.
  • Prior experience in medical billing.
  • Prior experience in a health care environment and electronic medical records system preferred.
  • Professional demeanor, customer-focused attention, self-directed, strong attention to detail.
