Position Summary:

The Truss Consultant (TC) role serves as an inside sales and marketing representative in the Structures Division for the steel Truss Pedestrian and Vehicular product lines in an assigned territory. The TC is responsible for business development, product training, pricing guidance and securing orders while being accountable for lead to order project management and territory P&L performance.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Proactively identify, qualify and cultivate new project leads.
  • Create additional market demand for the Truss Bridge product line by making promotional phone calls fielding and responding to project development opportunities, and by identifying product presentation opportunities.
  • May assist Field team with seminars.
  • Provide expert and timely response to clients, customers and field Bridge Consultants on product technical aspects and industry inquiries and questions.
  • Act as key resource in the solution development, product and project positioning, quoting process, and provide estimates and consult on final quote pricing levels, performing or coordinating estimate creation with estimating team.
  • Has Truss and Girder specific pricing and margin ownership for assigned territory.
  • Maintain ownership of all Truss Bridge bid opportunities and pricing in geography. Work closely with all truss team and other CONTECH departments to ensure all bidding projects are identified and followed up on throughout the sales cycle.
  • Consultatively develops and communicates the product pricing strategy in accordance with annual revenue and margin targets to meet geographic area commitment.
  • Assists with solution development and defense of project specifications.
  • Initiates all Truss orders with Engineering Group to insure a seamless hand off of new orders. • Monitors their backlog of projects and communicates with Plant Project Managers, engineering and production staff to insure that customer commitments are met.
  • Reviews truss orders for scope, accuracy and completeness, clarifying information prior to hand off to engineering.
  • Perform regional market research, analysis and support, which may require activities such as: tracking competitive bid levels and analyzing competitive movements in the market.
  • May conduct product training for Field Marketing and Field Sales to increase their knowledge about the product positioning, specifications, pricing, product capabilities, construction and installation of the product.
  • Responsible for communicating with Truss Management and the marketing department when revisions in marketing materials need to be made due to product changes, additions and enhancements.
  • Works with Truss General Manager and/or Truss Commercial Manager to actively develop (and continuously improve) the technical tools that support the product line.Participates in product development discussions to determine new products and product enhancements. Other duties as assigned.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have prior sales experience.
  • Must have a high level of expertise, knowledge and experience with specified construction products, including the ability to handle the most complicated situations that may arise.
  • B.S. in Engineering, Construction Management or Technical background preferred but not required.
  • Strong knowledge of the construction industry usually associated with at least 3 years of experience with Engineered products.
  • Must have prior experience working with Construction Contract Documents.
  • Ability to work through and communicate with others to accomplish the objectives of the Product line.
  • Strong communication skills. Able to present information that is easily understood by others.
  • Strong training and coaching skills to help others learn and develop their knowledge and skills of the product.
  • Previous manufactured construction product sales and manufacturing experience helpful.
  • Ability to manage and interact effectively with team members in order to direct work flow, assign duties and complete tasks.
  • Ability to work under stress, interruptions and tight deadlines.
