The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Staunton District is seeking an Infrastructure Manager in our District Maintenance Section. The position will provide support to the District Maintenance Engineer in delivering the district maintenance program and management of the district infrastructure program. You will coordinate the District Maintenance Program, Roadside Program, Pavement Management Program, Maintenance Contract Program and Performance and Reporting Program in support of the Residencies and Interstate Maintenance Office.

The Infrastructure Manager will serve as a member of the Maintenance Leadership Group; participate on district and state-wide maintenance leadership committees; and attend meetings, prepare/present reports and share committee decisions/discussions with district maintenance staff. The selected candidate will provide leadership, coordination and support of the District Emergency Response and Severe Weather Programs. You will ensure Maintenance Managers and staff, monitor and respond to severe weather events; lead district wide Emergency Response Team and serve as Duty Officer; and ensure administrative functions of the Emergency Response and Severe Weather programs are carried out including organization, planning, documentation and evaluation.

This position is designated as essential to emergency operations and may be required to work outside of normal work hours, on weekends and holidays during emergency situations which may include but are not limited to inclement weather, disaster response and emergency operations to ensure the safety of the traveling public.

Once onboarded, this position may be eligible for telework opportunities; availability, hours, and duration of telework shall be approved as outlined in the Commonwealth telework policy.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience reflecting comprehensive knowledge of highway maintenance and working knowledge of transportation engineering principles and practices
  • Experience applying knowledge of transportation engineering principles and practices.
  • Experience applying knowledge of federal, state and transportation rules, regulations and policies.
  • Experience reflecting knowledge of budget development.
    Experience reflecting knowledge of contract development and administration.
  • Skill in data management and data analysis.
  • Ability to interact effectively with internal and external customers and stakeholders including localities and the public.
  • Ability to guide people and achieve results.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications
  • College degree in engineering or business administration and/or equivalent experience or training may substitute for degree
  • Prior experience working on highway maintenance or construction projects
  • Experience in business administration and management
  • Experience in financial management

Special Requirements
VDOT is an emergency response agency, therefore you will work outside of normal work hours during emergency operations when services are needed.
