Overview:

We are the largest US Department of Energy science and energy laboratory, conducting basic and applied research to deliver transformative solutions to compelling problems in energy and security. Our diverse capabilities span a broad spectrum of science and engineering disciplines, enabling the Laboratory to explore fundamental science challenges and to carry out the research needed to accelerate the delivery of solutions to the marketplace. We are currently seeking applicants to serve as an Immigration Specialist in our Human Resources Directorate. Purpose:Under guidance of senior specialists, the incumbent will be the primary point of contact for an identified group of Science Directorates, HR business partners, and foreign national employees to provide direction and guidance on viable immigration avenues for employment. Independently prepare and track non-immigrant petitions for foreign talent and manage caseload through the immigration life cycle.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

• Promote an environment of teamwork and excellence in customer service that enable science at ORNL.
• Serve as the primary point of contact and immigration advisor for a large group of employees, hiring managers, and HR staff.
• Independently prepare employment based non-immigrant visa petitions and other documents primarily in the categories of H-1B, F-1, and TN, track visa dates, and ensure foreign national employees maintain an employable visa status.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of immigration laws, regulations, practices, and trends.
• Review and evaluate all pertinent information and documents related to foreign national employment candidates and employees to ensure compliance with DHS, DOL, DOS, and DOE laws/regulations.
• Serve as an Alternate Responsible Officer for UT-Battelle’s Exchange Visitor Program
• Utilize online case management and reporting system for employment visas
• Conduct internal audits of H-1B clients and prepare various reports
• Prepare and present various training sessions on a variety of immigration topics
• Maintain a strong commitment to ORNL values, ethics, and working in and supporting a diverse and inclusive environment

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree with two years of immigration, administrative, or human resources experience.
• Excellent customer service skills, communication skills, and analytical/problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented and accurate, set proprieties appropriately and work on multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Incumbent must be a citizen or lawful permanent resident of the United States and must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check as required by the Department of State to carry out the duties outlined in 22 CFR § 62.11.

Desired Qualifications:

• Prior work experience in a multicultural and/or multinational environment
• Prior experience working for a federal contractor
• Paralegal experience and experience filing immigration petitions in the STEM fields highly desirable
