This position provides routine support in the environmental services for residents to assure the highest degree of quality resident care is maintained at all times; works necessary to keep the facility in a clean, safe, and comfortable manner and ensures laundry is completed and returned to the appropriate locations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be required and assigned.
  • Operates scrubbing machine and carpet extractor.
  • Keeps carts and equipment in good working condition and properly stores all materials at the end of each work shift.
  • Performs isolation cleaning in accordance with established infection control procedures.
  • Maintains adequate daily supplies in closets and cleaning carts and notifies supervisor of supply needs.
  • Reports all equipment malfunctions or breakdowns to the supervisor.
  • Collects, sorts, and weighs soiled laundry and places it in appropriate containers, including removing soiled linen to the designated soiled linen room.
  • Washes and dries laundry in accordance with prescribed procedures, then folds, counts and distributes clean laundry to the residents and/or their closets and dresser drawers or linen closets.
  • Ensures adequate linen supply is always available in the linen closets.
  • Maintains cleanliness in resident's rooms.
  • Maintains work areas in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner.
  • Follows proper techniques in the use of chemicals and potentially hazardous materials in the workplace and insures that established infection control and universal precaution practices are maintained when performing laundry procedures.
  • Marks residents clothing and personal items as necessary and reports any missing property complaints.
  • Assists with the training and orientation of new Housekeepers.
  • Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of PPE and its proper use for personal safety measures.
  • Knowledge of chemicals used in housekeeping and laundry services including hazardous laundry chemicals and isolation procedures.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all resident care information and assure resident rights and privacy are protected at all times per HIPAA.
  • Ability to create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth and personal interest as well as a clean environment.
  • Ability to work tactfully and cooperatively with residents, families, visitors and entire staff throughout the organization.
  • Ability to verbally communicate with residents, families, the public and other members of the organization.
  • Must be able to exhibit a warm, cheerful caring manner.
  • Must be able to safely perform the essential job functions.
  • General knowledge of standard office procedures and practices; computers and other electronic devices; and Microsoft office assistance techniques.
  • Knowledge of County and department programs and policies.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate and concise records and reports.
  • Ability to work the allocated hours of the position.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
  • Ability to communicate appropriately/professionally.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with other members of the staff, supervisor, and the public.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both written and verbal form.
  • Must be proficient in workplace English and spelling.
  • Ability to read County policies and procedures; written instructions, general correspondence; SDS sheets, safety manuals, maps, etc.

  • Ability to calculate mathematical calculations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 75 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, frequently requires standing, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions and occasionally requires walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and reaching with hands and arms.
  • Work has standard vision requirements.
  • Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
  • Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
  • Work frequently requires exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment and occasionally requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles.
  • May work in any area of the facility.
  • May be subject to frequent interruptions and may have to reschedule cleaning work.
  • May be subject to the handling of hazardous chemicals.
  • May be subject to dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, and other air contaminants.
  • May be subject to exposure to infectious wastes, diseases, and medical conditions.
  • Vaccinations and testing as required by local, state, or federal regulations and/or other regulating entities.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Work is primarily in a health care setting.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • High School Diploma/ equivalent.
  • One year previous work experience with laundry, housekeeping, custodial work, or janitorial work preferred.
  • Must successfully pass criminal and caregiver background checks.
Full Pay Range: $15.90-$19.11
Expected Pay Range: $15.90-$16.95
