GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

Under limited direction, the High School Health Academy Coordinator will be responsible for the planning, implementation and oversight of education and training programs and courses for the High School Health Academy in Kirkwood Community College’s K-12 Partnerships Department. The Coordinator will be responsible for program development, implementation, instructor recruitment and budgetary oversight. The Coordinator will be responsible for maintaining all institutional, local, state and national compliance and certifications for programs.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assess local and regional education needs and implement offerings to meet the assessed needs.
  • Coordinate program and curriculum with instructors.
  • Provide budgetary oversight of program functions.
  • Counsel current and prospective students on appropriate educational needs.
  • Participate in state-wide programming activities.
  • Prepare planning analysis of new programs.
  • Work with/coordinate instructors/speakers to present quality courses/programs.
  • Monitor and analyze budget revenue projections, program expenses operating margin and other benchmarks in support of department and strategic plans.
  • Participate in related program advisory committee and communications with the career field.
  • Perform other related work duties as assigned.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:
  • Administer and oversee the academy program and related courses at program sites in Kirkwood’s seven county region.
  • Assist with the current implementation and compliance of Kirkwood Community College’s Nurse Aide program and assure compliance with all local, state, and federal guidelines and regulations regarding Nurse Aide and other long-term care program training
  • Coordinate and prepare reports pertinent to the program area.
  • Recruit, hire, train and evaluate instructors for the High School Health Academy programs in Kirkwood’s seven county service area
  • Support instructors with issues of student compliance and program requirements
  • Coordinate and assist in the development of new courses and revisions of existing courses within the program.
  • Assist instructors in preparation, delivery and troubleshooting of High School Health Academy courses
  • Establish and maintain relationships and communication with participating high schools and clinical agencies
  • Effectively organize, prepare and evaluate course work in accordance with established and/or developed syllabi.
  • Coordinate the process of requesting and maintaining instructional equipment, facilities and supplies for instructional use.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:

Position involves working in an office setting. Occasional (10-33%) standing, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) sitting, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Registered Nurse or higher (BSN, MSN, NP)
  • Current Iowa Nursing license.
  • Two years full time experience working as a Registered Nurse.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:
  • Registered Nurse or higher (BSN, MSN, NP)
  • CPR for the Healthcare Professional Instructor (or ability to obtain within six months of employment)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS :
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • At least two-years experience working as a Registered Nurse in a long-term care facility (skilled nursing floor of hospital will not qualify as LTC experience).
  • Knowledge of current practice and other related health areas required.
  • At least one year experience in educational setting and familiarity with agencies and boards of agencies preferred.
  • Five years recent and relevant experience in healthcare or healthcare education (or combination of) may be substituted for Bachelor’s degree
