Overview:
M Health Fairview is looking for a Health Unit Coordinator at St. John’s Hospital in Maplewood, MN. This position is 48 hours per two weeks on the Night shift, for 8 hour shifts, every other weekend, and has a block schedule.

Health Unit Coordinators are part of a dynamic care team including Providers, RN's, Nursing Assistants and Department Leaders, creating an atmosphere of hospitality and efficiency. Using EPIC, the Health Unit Coordinator plays a critical role in the coordination of information ensuring an optimal patient visitor experience.

Responsibilities/Job Description:
  • Maintains knowledge of, and complies with, all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures and standards
  • Actively participates in creating and implementing improvements
  • Demonstrates commitment to the universal guiding principles of the patient care model in order to achieve the HealthEast Nursing Vision
  • Supports the Nursing Process to achieve outcome focused patient care
  • Performs vital sign checks, bladder scanning, blood sugar testing and documents cares provided
  • Achieves customer service excellence by understanding the needs of all internal and external customers, patients, families, physicians and the interdependent team
  • Prioritizes and transcribes written doctor's orders under the supervision of the RN
  • Documents patient information in EHR and/or other electronic system in accordance with program standards, department policies/procedures
  • Patient Care Delivery: Observes and collects pertinent data and/or clinical findings to enhance patient outcomes
  • Patient Education: Provides patient educational information appropriate to the developmental level, learning needs, readiness, cultural values, and beliefs of patients and families
  • Patient Safety: Demonstrates practices that support safety with recognition of variations in populations served, preventing harm to patients, families, employees, and themselves
Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • 1 to 3 years office experience required, preferably in a health care setting

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Unit coordinator course preferred

Other Required Skills:

  • Attention to Detail: Achieves thoroughness and accuracy when accomplishing a task
  • Computer Skills Basic: Ability to use a computer and applications that are associated with performing basic work tasks (navigate in Windows, Outlook, etc)
  • Interpersonal Communication: Skilled in developing effective rapport with customers, co-workers, or families, actively listening to develop a positive connection
