The American Lung Association has an excellent opportunity for a Specialist, Health Promotions (GA #2223-053). Working as a member of the Health Promotion & Education department, you will join an outstanding group of professionals dedicated to our mission: to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease through research, education, and advocacy.

In this role you will implement Georgia Department of Public Health Infectious and Non-Infectious Tuberculosis grants by providing statewide case management for patients with Tuberculosis needing support and assistance while under directly observed therapy. This includes providing short-term housing for homeless TB patients and financial assistance while under quarantine and directly observed therapy. This is a grant-funded position. This is a hybrid position working both remotely and in the field throughout the Atlanta metropolitan area, primarily but not exclusively within DeKalb County. This is a grant-funded position.

RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Provide statewide case management services for Georgia TB patients including providing alternative housing for homeless TB patients and financial assistance for those in quarantine under direct observed therapy.
  • Case management services include meals, transportation for medical appointments, as well as
  • identifying and assessing social needs related to mental health and substance abuse.
  • Coordinate all aspects of grant projects activities, including trainings, presentations.
  • Develop and effectively utilize timelines and work plans to ensure completion of grant deliverables.
  • Contribute to monthly and quarterly reporting of grant activities.
  • Actively participate in coalitions identified by the Georgia Department of Public Health.
  • Monitor, review and manage expenditures for the Barnwell Trust funding for South Carolina TB patients
  • Represent the Association as a member of community, civic, and/or health coalitions and organizations related to the Association’s mission. Actively participate in coalitions identified by the Georgia Department of Public Health.
  • Build, maintain, and cultivate relationships with funders and community partners to encourage program delivery, sustainability, and growth across service territory, including American Lung Association signature programs.
  • Select and participate in local, state, and national seminars and courses designed to increase skills and knowledge related to job requirements.
  • Serve on American Lung Association’s regional and national workgroups and committees as requested.
  • Participate in and support area events and other activities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in public health or related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Minimum two years of experience developing and implementing community awareness, education, and programs specifically related to areas of public health.
  • Prior experience in public health, social services, public policy, and/or advocacy.
  • Must be a self-starter with excellent communication skills both written and oral.
  • Positive attitude with the ability to work independently and cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s license and your own reliable transportation with the ability to travel within assigned area 65% of the time for meetings and conferences, as well as the flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends with some overnights required
  • Able to work with minimum direct supervision, make decisions, and take initiative.
  • Proven ability to cultivate and steward relationships across a diverse population
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and Internet applications.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
