POSITION: COOK’S HELPER

CECD Head Start has immediate openings for Cook's Helpers in Queens, NY (Jamaica and Hollis).

JOB SUMMARY:

The scope of responsibilities includes menu planning, food preparation, purchasing, sanitation and record keeping.
QUALIFICATIONS:

· Must have a high school diploma or equivalent

· Must have or obtain a Food Handler’s certificate

· 2 or more years of experience in quantity food production (Daycare, Head Start or

other related facilities) a plus

· Must have good communication and math skills

· Must be fluent in verbal and written English

· Should have experience in preparing culturally diverse foods for groups

· Must be computer literate

· Must be a team player; willing to work with diverse groups and able to perform with minimum supervision.

· Must complete screenings for the NYC Department of Investigation (fingerprints), NYC Department of Education (fingerprints) and State Central Registry (SCR) for Child Abuse . The fee for DOI fingerprints is $101.75. DOE fingerprints are $135.00 The fee for the SCR is $25.00. All fees are the sole responsibility of the candidate.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

· Assist head cook in the planning of menus that are varied and conform to Head Start Program Performance Standards

· Ensure proper receiving and storage of requisitioned food/supplies

· Good sanitation and safety practices

· Food preparation and meal service

· Maintain proper records – purchases; inventory; menu records; etc.

· Ensure maintenance of equipment, kitchen and food storage area

· Participate with the education staff in nutrition related classroom activities

· Participate in staff meetings, conferences, training sessions and workshops as assigned

· Provide nutrition/food information to parents through recipes and bulletin boards

· Adhere to all city, state and federal health and safety codes

· Perform any other work-related duties as assigned by the supervisor

Compensation: $33,957.00 per year with benefits
