Position Description: The Head Coach is responsible for achieving the mission and goals of the Athletic Department through his/her sport. The Head Coach will produce a program that is competitive within the conference: adheres to conference and NJCAA standards, and College policies; attracts student-athletes who are good citizens of the college and the community; has its student-athletes graduate on time and able to transfer; and instills pride in the College and the Community. This position also serves as a Campus Safety Authority as required by federal law in the Clery Act. Position Responsibilities: 5.00% - Establish a functional budget, maintain a constant awareness of expenditures, and keep expenditures within the allotted budget, etc. in conjunction with the Athletic Director. Manage allocated scholarship funds in accordance with all applicable conference/financial aid/institutional rules and regulations and assist student athletes with awareness of Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements relevant to continued aid eligibility. 5.00% - Originate and assure smooth logistical support for the program as it relates to team travel, meals. 5.00% - Assist his/her student athletes so that they may be academically successful and make appropriate progress toward timely graduation and transfer, to include assistance with navigation and tracking of the necessary onboarding and off boarding processes associated with their Barton experience. 50.00% - Provide sport specific instruction related to performance enhancement of your student athletes. 5.00% - Establish and maintain a viable relationship with the Colleges Communications Office and area media to promote Barton Athletics. 5.00% - Be actively involved in departmental and College-wide activities and regularly attend and participate in departmental and College-wide meetings. 7.00% - Sign student athletes who are positive role models and will be good campus and community citizens and also, attempt to field individual student athletes and teams that are consistently capable of successfully competing for conference, regional, and national championships. 5.00% - Actively promote the recruitment of Barton's student athletes who are completing their eligibility at the College. In assisting the four-year colleges and universities as they recruit Barton's student athletes, the Coach will not use the student athletes as a "bargaining chip" for personal gain or other special considerations to be received by the Coach. 5.00% - Provide necessary student athlete discipline in and out of competition and throughout the full academic year without undue involvement by the Athletic Director or College. 2.00% - Work within the community to generate appropriate, positive fan interest and community support. 2.00% - Initiate fund raising ideas and implement those under the direction of and with the support of the Athletic Director. 2.00% - Know the most current rules and regulations of the Jayhawk Conference, the region, and the NJCAA, and abide by all those rules and regulations as well as ensure that the assistant coach(es) does/do the same, so that the program operates in complete compliance with the standards established by the rules. 2.00% - Performs other duties as needed or assigned. Expectations: Provide professional and positive supportive working relationships and consultation with: Maintenance department, Academic Advisors, Admissions department, Housing Director, Financial Aid department, Student Development, Athletic department (coaches, athletic director and support staff). Provide up to 6 hours of instruction per academic year or other equivalent duties as assigned. Instructional duties are covered under the position description for part-time faculty. Provide programs and support, as will as take advantage of College programs, which promote the academic success of his/her student athletes. Adhere to a schedule of regular office hours; giving consideration to recruiting, playing dates, practice schedules and other items that might cause the Head Coach to be unavailable.
Provide appropriate supervision of, and relationship with, his/her assistant coach(es). Personally initiate and assure effective, efficient, continuous, and meaningful communications and positive working relations with student athletes, assistant coach(es), departmental coaches, support staff, Athletic Director and other College personnel. The Coach is expected to initiate and positively promote support staff, other coaches, the Athletic Director and all other College personnel within the community and avoid communication that casts colleagues in a poor light. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience -
Previous experience as a head coach at a high school, community college or four-year institution .

Previous experience as a recruiter of successful student athletes. Education -
Bachelors degree required; masters degree preferred; or equivalent experience as determined by the Athletic Director. Other Skills -
Knowledge and ability to discipline, communicate with and motivate student athletes.

Knowledge of sport and how to teach it.

Ability to scout opponents effectively.

Ability to recruit talented student athletes that are positive and productive citizens.

Knowledge and understanding of all NJCAA and Jayhawk Conference rules and regulations.

Classroom management, teaching and student assessment techniques.

Good human relations skills as it pertains to recruiting.

Good public relations skills as it pertains to promoting the program and athletic department.

Effective communication as it pertains to teaching the sport and working with those who come into contact with the team and the athletic department.

Physical Requirements: The work requires moderate physical exertion such as long periods of standing, repetitively lifting lightweight objects with frequent bending or stooping, recurring lifting of moderately heavy items such as computer, printers or record boxes. Occasionally lifts heavy objects (over 50 pounds). Job requires average agility and dexterity. Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office or classroom. Wages/Other:
Salary will be determined in accordance with appropriate qualifications, including highest earned degree in the discipline, related work experience in the field, professional licensure and/or certifications.
