Title: Head Coach, Track and Field/Cross Country Responsibilities:

1. Under the supervision of the Director of Athletics, the Head Coach of Track and Field/Cross Country is responsible for overseeing Essex County College’s Track and Field/Cross Country Program during the Track and Field seasons.

2. The Head Coach, Track and Field/Cross Country reports to the Director of Athletics.

3. Collaborate with the Director of Athletics to develop annual goals for the Track and Field/Cross Country programs.

4. Provide individualized coaching/tutoring/mentoring and oversight of all event disciplines with the focus on Sprinters and Field Events. This will include assessing skill attainment and development, and the individualize yearly plan for assigned student-athletes that focuses improving their performances during competitions.

5. Maintain and share records, practice plans and calendars with the operations Coordinator, coaching staff, student-athletes, and Athletic Department Staff.

6. In collaboration with the Coordinator, Cross Country/Track and Field Operations, develop and implement a recruitment strategy for prospective student-athletes.

7. Monitor the academic, athletic, and personal development of student-athletes and prepare or collecting individualize performance and incidence reports.

8. Work directly with the Head Athletic Trainer to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all student-athletes. This includes the reporting of injuries and Covid-19 positive cases or other infectious disease cases to the Head Athletic Trainer immediately and adhering to all recommendations from the Athletic Trainer to ensure a safe return to participation.

9. Oversee, organize, and facilitate practice and meet preparation to enhance entire team’s performance.

10. Schedule and conduct regular practice sessions within both traditional and non-traditional season in compliance with NJCAA regulations. The Head Coach may, at their discretion, permit the Assistant Coach to schedule or conduct practice sessions.

11. Develop and implement strategies for motivating student-athletes to perform at the highest level as both a team and as individuals.

12. Provide overall support for the personal, academic, and athletic development of studentathletes, and monitor their performance.

13. Submit reports related to practices, competitions, and incidences as required by the Director of Athletics. Reports will also include financial reporting related to meet entry fees, travel destinations costs, meal money disbursement forms, and assist with reconciliations after each meet. The Director of Athletics will advise the Head Coach when these reports are due.

14. Ensure that receipts after each away(travel) competition are provided to the Coordinator, Track and Field/Cross Country Operations within 24 business hours of the completed trip.

15. Adhere to and enforce all policies, regulations, and procedures of Essex County College, the Essex County College Athletic Department, the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), NJCAA Region 19, the Garden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) as well as all relevant local, state and federal laws.

16. The Head Coach shall further meet the professional expectations of the Director of Athletics and comply with ECC’s Coaches’ Manual and Employee Handbook.
