Gaston Brewing Company is looking for a creative, experienced brewer to join our team. We currently have 2 locations in Fayetteville, NC. The first location is a full-service restaurant located downtown, and the second location houses our production brewery and taproom. We also have a local distribution presence and are seeking a professional career-focused individual to grow with us as a company.

The head brewer is responsible for all aspects of day-to-day brewery operation. This will include forecasting of production goals, planning a production calendar, managing employees, creating new product recipes, and managing resources.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the brewing process, including raw material procurement, recipe formulation, brewing, fermentation, and packaging in both kegs and cans.
• Manage the brewing team, including hiring, training, and scheduling.
• Management of production volume needs and production schedule.
• Ensure the quality of the beer, including conducting quality control tests and adjusting the brewing process as needed.
• Use of brewery management software and keeping detailed records of quality metrics.
• Consistently recreate existing flagships and seasonal brews.
• Work with the management to develop new beer recipes and the sales team to market the brewery's beers.
• Calibration/maintenance of quality and brewing instruments/equipment.
• Attend trade shows and industry events to stay up to date on the latest brewing trends.
• Maintain the brewery's equipment and facilities.
• Comply with all health and safety regulations.
• Oversee all Beer Education with Staff
• Take initiative, plan for the next task at hand, organization is a must.
• General Cleaning and Maintenance of workspace.
• Ability to efficiently operate keg washer.
• Maintain Inventory Reports Monthly
• Maintain detailed and accurate brew and fermentation logs.
• Packaging Duties-Kegging and Canning
• Safely handle hazardous cleaning and sanitation chemicals while maintaining proper PPE.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in brewing science or a related field is preferred.
• 2+ years of experience as a brewer (experienced assistant or shift brewers looking to step into a leadership role will also be considered).
• Strong knowledge of the brewing process
• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills
• Flexibility and adaptability
• Experience with QC/QA
• Experience guiding tastings for staff and/or customers.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:

• Ability to lift 60 pounds and move 170 pounds safely.
• Ability to work in wet environment with humidity, steam, and heat.
• Ability to bend, twist, kneel, climb stairs and ramps often.
• Manual dexterity
• Endurance to work long shifts when needed.
• Ability to stand, stoop, bend, and work overhead over the course of several hours.
• Ability to work in small, confined spaces.
• Ability to work in a loud environment.
• Willingness to work with hazardous chemicals necessary for brewery sanitation.
