Position Summary
The National Center for Science, Literacy and Technology (NCSLET) is looking for a Graphic Designer to provide design, production, and testing for NCSLET’s web and print-based educational products. The Graphic Designer will work in a highly collaborative work environment to help ensure that our products are of the highest quality and adhere to the Museum’s style and brand identity. Essential are excellent visual design skills, solid technical knowledge, an understanding of human-centered design concepts, and experience in designing for both print and web for a variety of audiences: children, general audience, and teachers.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Create graphic assets for projects including:
    • Seminars on Science (learn.amnh.org) and Coursera online course material
    • Title treatment and graphics for video resources
    • Marketing materials
  • Design and layout of Educator‘s Guides for the Museum’s exhibition halls and temporary exhibits and curriculum materials
  • Web content design for OLogy, the Museum’s website for kids
  • Mockups and prototyping for Education Department entities on amnh.org
  • Conduct user research and usability testing to measure the impact of web design work and iterate on improvements
  • Use design thinking and human-centered design processes to generate new ideas for web and app content and site architectures

The Graphic Designer will work in a team environment. All work will be supervised by the Art Director, and reviewed by Associate Director or Director of NCSLET.

The expected salary for the Graphic Designer, NCSLET is $59,467. The AMNH offers an extensive benefits package designed to meet the needs of our dedicated and diverse community.

Pay will be determined based on several factors. The hiring range for the position at commencement is based on the type of work and the scope of responsibilities. The salary and placement offered is based on a number of individualized factors, including, but not limited to, skills, knowledge, training, education, credentials, areas of specialization and depth and scope of experience.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree, coursework in graphic and web design strongly preferred
  • 3-5 years of professional experience in graphic and web design, or equivalent educational experience
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat)
  • Experience with user testing tools, and prototyping tools, such as Adobe XD, Figma, and Sketch
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Ability to manage complex projects, creative and strategic thinking, collaborative, resourceful, and attentive to details
  • Knowledge of html/css/sass to work with developer to implement design
  • Knowledge of responsive and atomic design
  • Excellent presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent sense of typography, imagery, information design, user psychology, design thinking, iconography, and color

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with a content management system
